I believe God has been molding me(Jena) to adopt since I was young. I loved playing with dolls and Barbies and I usually picked the ones that had different skin color than myself. So, when Jeffrey and I married in 2011, it wasn’t long before we started the adoption process. We hit several bumps in the road before becoming foster parents in 2014. In the summer of 2014, we became parents for the first time to 2 foster kids, 16 months and 3 months. We were lucky to be able to adopt these 2 and officially make them Waldens in 2017. In 2015, we welcomed our one and only biological son to the world and we were determined our family was complete, but God had other plans for us. Towards the end of 2018, God laid international adoption on my heart, specifically a child with Down Syndrome. By February 2019, we were waist deep in adoption and grant paperwork, as well as fundraisers. By October 2019, we were on a plane, for the first time(YES), to China. So many emotions rushed through our bodies and only God and the prayers of others helped us get through the 2 weeks there. However, when we were on our orphanage visit, God began getting our hearts ready to go back one day and adopt again. We decided that when our kids were older, we would adopt again. But, God had a different plan. When I saw our little one’s face on an advocacy page, we knew that child was ours. We received Pre-Aprroval November 9 for our little addition, who also has Down Syndrome.
We recently were rewarded a $5000 matching grant from
