Jones Family Adoption Journey

Nic and Lisa Jones
Nic and Lisa Jones Prospect, Kentucky

We’re Nic and Lisa Jones and after almost 10 years of marriage and 3 beautiful children, we have decided to follow the call God placed in our hearts many years ago and pursue adoption as a way of expanding our family.  We thought it might be easiest to share about our decision and this process through some FAQs.

Why adoption?

We love our family and have been so overwhelmed by God’s goodness in the form of our three children: Amelia Jane (8), Rexford (7), and Bowman (3).  However, we discussed and prayed over our desire to grow our family through adoption before we even got married.  We were not sure children would come biologically for us, so the seeds of adoption were planted early in our marriage (God knew more than we did….and still does).  10 years and 3 kids later, the calling for us to grow our family through adoption has never ceased and only increased. Taking this step is fulfilling a call on our lives that was planted years ago.

Will you “choose” a baby?

We are confident that God has already chosen the baby who will join our family.  In this spirit, we would happily welcome a child of any race and either gender.

How are you going to afford it?

Like many young families with children, we don’t have an extra $30,000-$40,000 laying around!  However, we have set adoption as a goal for our family and began saving toward this goal of bringing a child home to our forever family.  Still, our reality is that, while we know we are able to care for the day to day expenses of adding another child, the burden of the fees associated in completing the adoption process is significant and challenging.  We are pursuing grant and fundraising opportunities, and have been awarded a $3,000 matching grant from Sojourn East Adoption Fund, administered by Lifesong for Orphans (GOD IS GOOD). We are so humbled to see how God is providing for our family and growing the community of people who already love this baby.

We have been met with many reactions when we tell people that we are adopting.  One of the comments we have heard is that other families have been interested in adoption, but that the financial burden is a deterrent.  Our prayer, also, is that through this process we will be a living example that when God calls, He also provides.  We are excited to see God’s handiwork play out in our family and look forward to sharing this truth with our adopted son or daughter.

Thank you for your interest in joining us in this adoption journey, we are so thankful for your support and prayer!
