Welcome, friends, to our adoption story.
People ask how the decision to adopt all got started for Matt and me, and the best way to describe it is this: it all came down to one cold night in January 2019 (after months of prayer and conversations and dreaming and more conversations and even more prayer) when Matt grabbed my face and said, “I can see it in your eyes that God has called you to do this… called us to do this. And I will do hard things with you.”
That was our yes.
Since that night in January, our anthem has been to say yes, take a step, and LET GOD. That step has been toward domestic infant adoption. We went through the home study process and created a profile book of our family to present to expectant mothers considering adoption for their child. We signed on with Faithful Adoption Consultants, spent 77 days as active clients, and poured our hearts into praying for the dozens of expectant mothers that came into our inbox. On September 6, 2019, we were chosen by the sweetest mama in Ohio to become the parents of her little boy.
The details that God orchestrated in Mama A’s life to bring us together blows our mind. She is the bravest person in the world to us. Our role as a family now — as we wait until baby boy’s birth in January 2020 — is to love her from afar and support her as much as we possibly can.
I knew I would be instantly in love with the baby that God matched us with, but what I wasn’t expecting was to fall equally in love with the mother who chose us from a pile of other families to raise her child. Our hearts are forever connected; we can’t wait to see what God continues to do in this relationship. Please pray for Mama A and baby boy to be strong, healthy, and feel so loved right now.
Financially, adoption is no small thing. Until this point, Matt and I felt God holding us back from any kind of fundraising. We didn’t exactly know how we would pull off the expense, which will be pushing $60,000 when all is said and done, but we have watched Him provide time and time again for what we need.
Most recently, God has graciously provided a $3,000 matching grant from the Bayside Baptist Church Adoption Fund, administered by Lifesong for Orphans. This grant will double the first $3,000 we raise as a family. Words can’t describe the magnitude of this gift. We are humbled to have been the recipient of such generosity, and our heart is to steward well the gifts received. This has brought us to invite you to partner with us in our adoption process.
We still owe our agency the second half of the adoption program fee: $23,000. This is due anytime before birth but, in reality, needs to be paid in December to safely secure that we’ll be ready for go time in January.
Enter the Johnson Adoption puzzle fundraiser.
It works like this: we have a 1000 piece puzzle that is just begging to be put together. By sponsoring pieces of our puzzle for $20 each, you’ll be helping us put the pieces together and hit that scary-to-us but not-impossible-to-God number that we need to reach by November 23. You can sponsor one piece or ten pieces (or however many you feel led to), and we’ll write your name on the pieces you sponsor as a keepsake for the irreplaceable role you’re playing in our family. One piece at a time, we’ll climb ever closer to that goal of completing the puzzle.
$20,000 puzzle + 3,000 match award = the second half of the agency fee.
Yes, it is an tremendous number. Even so, we know our God is the God who moves mountains, and we know without a shadow of a doubt that HE is our provider in this adoption. He loves Mama A and baby boy so much more than we ever can. He will continue to make a way.
This is so vulnerable, you guys. Scary. Uncomfortable. Humbling. What Jesus is calling our family to is all of these things and more, but ultimately WORTH IT because this sweet baby boy is WORTH IT. Thank you for supporting us financially and through prayer. We wait and watch what God will do and, with excited anticipation, know He is going to blow our minds yet again.
