We are Kyle and Amy Johnson. Adoption is something that has been on both of our hearts for a very long time. God has blessed us with two biological children. As our son reached the age of 2, we both felt our family was not yet complete and that we have the capacity to love and pour into another child. We began talking more and more about adoption. As we considered the possibility, we thought about how expensive it is, how it might affect our two kids, and all the other unknowns. At a certain point, we realized that it was fear that was holding us back from being obedient to what God was calling us to. During a sermon at church one Sunday, we heard the pastor say “Fear tries to figure everything out. Faith asks what the next step is.” We felt like he was speaking directly to us, and we knew that in faith we needed to take the first step toward adoption. While we were open to either domestic or international adoption, we felt God calling us to open our hearts to a son or daughter from Haiti.
Through the process of researching and speaking to adoption agencies, we were told on at least a couple occasions that the Haiti adoption process is hard, and it is not for the faint of heart. We are trusting God in his direction for our family and are excited for all He will do in the life of our future son or daughter, our lives, and the lives of others through this journey.
Fundraising for our adoption is certainly not something that either of us find easy to do. However, as many of you know, adoption is very expensive, with large amounts of money due at different points throughout the process. Although we have thought there is no way we can afford this, God has provided so far, and we are confident that He will continue to do so. We have worked to eliminate unnecessary spending and are seeking to save as much as we can. We have also held garage sales at our house, with the proceeds going to our adoption fund. It is our hope that our story will inspire others to be a part of it and possibly begin their own adoption story.
We have submitted our dossier and are currently waiting for a referral for our son or daughter. We are blessed to have received a matching grant of $4,500 through Pathway Community Church’s orphan care ministry, TrueVine, so every dollar of the first $4,500 raised here will be matched dollar-for-dollar, effectively doubling your donation!
We are grateful for your prayers, support, and encouragement during this journey! We are also so thankful for your generosity!
