THE JOURNEY BEGINS
Before Anna and I knew each other we both knew that we would adopt a child one day.
Reading passages like James 1:27 “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” and realizing how God has adopted us into His family as dearly loved children, we knew we were called to support adoption (pray for, give toward, support others), but also to one day bring a child into our home through adoption.
To be honest, we discussed adoption when we were dating, during the time we were engaged, and on and off for the past 10 years of marriage. Last year as we were approaching our 10-year anniversary we were talking about adoption and how we knew God had called us to it, how we had always believed it was going to be a little girl, and how our “one day we were going to start the process” had now been over 10 years. We could almost hear God say as we were talking, “Will it always be ‘one day’? Or will you jump in by faith into what I have called you to?”
It was time.
Why would we wait another minute?
So last year in August we began the process with America World Adoption Agency (AWAA) to adopt a child internationally. After lots of prayer and going through some of the initial steps, India came on the radar and we knew it was going to be a little girl.
After almost a year of paperwork, psych exams (Anna did pass FYI ;)), physical exams, social worker visits, interviews, and hours of courses and tests, we have now accepted a referral and have officially been matched with a child!
She is 8 months old, and she is beautiful.
We have just been praising God for how faithful He’s been so far. We have a video and a few pictures of her (we can’t share them yet). To say we are excited and ready to bring her home would be an understatement.
As we hit this point of the adoption process, we are asking for two things from those of you who have known us over the years and even those reading this who have no idea who we are:
1. Pray. Our daughter has a few medical needs, and again we are so ready to bring her home and start caring for her. Pray that the 8–12 month timeline we’ve been given will be reduced and that she will be safe and cared for while still in the orphanage in India. Pray that we will be diligent in completing the next round of paperwork and necessary steps. Pray for strength for us as we race toward the finish line.
2. Give. As we get closer to the end of this process, we are looking to raise about $14,000. God has been faithful, but now the largest chunk of money is due to our adoption agency in the next couple of months to finalize the process. Your gift is of course tax deductible. Lifesong for Orphans has awarded us a matching grant. If you give using the instructions below they will match up to $4500*!
Thank you for taking the time to read this. We are so grateful we get to see God fulfill what He birthed in our hearts over 10 years ago. Would you join us? Help us make a difference in this child’s life…because it’s time. Why wait another minute?
*Any additional donations above $4,500 will not be matched but will still go to our adoption fund. This fund is open to donations until the time we finalize our adoption.
STRIPE charges an online processing fee (2.2% +.30 USD per transaction). Your donations will be decreased by this amount. You may also send a check payable to “Lifesong for Orphans”. In the memo line please write “Segre 7586”, to ensure it is credited to our account. Please mail to Lifesong for Orphans, PO Box 40, Gridley, IL 61744.
Lifesong has been blessed with partners who underwrite all U.S. administrative and fundraising costs (TMG Foundation and other partners). That means 100% of your donation will go directly to the adoption.
