Huss Family Adoption

Tanner and Taylor Huss
Tanner and Taylor Huss Louisville, Kentucky

Taylor has loved children from a very young age. She has found something so sweet in watching children grow and develop. Each day Taylor gets to work as a preschool teacher to some pretty incredible, fun, and rowdy one-year-olds. She has desired to adopt and care for children since she can remember and is ready to love on her children however they may come. Over the past ten years, God has continued to grow her heart towards loving “the least of these.”

Tanner has a deep love for children and has felt called to be a dad for a long time. Every day, he invests in his high school students, partnering with Christian parents to disciple their children. He has received almost no greater joy than getting to affirm God’s gifts and calling in a student’s life. Adoption was a natural part of his home through his mom’s role in caring for a couple of internationally adopted girls while he was growing up. Through Taylor’s compassion toward the orphan and God’s compassion toward him, God has filled Tanner’s heart with a love for “the least of these.”

Our church family has allowed Taylor to work on the adoption and foster ministry team, Journey One 27, for the past two years where her desires have been refined through supporting other adoptive families. This ministry has been a major blessing in helping educate and help adoptive/foster families who are yearning to love their families well. Which has allowed for us to be surrounded by likeminded individuals who can help us navigate the ins and outs of adoption/fostering.

When we got married, adoption was a part of our discussion. However, we never knew when God would prompt the both of us to jump into adoption. It seems that God has given us the support and community to help us adopt and parent well. We hope to be faithful in loving the most vulnerable through adoption.

We know that God calls every one of us to care for the most vulnerable in our society. One way that we respond to that call of caring for the most vulnerable is through adoption. We have an amazing adoptive community in our church that has been honest about the reality of adoption. It is a messy and difficult road, but it is remedied by God’s people stepping up and sharing the love of Christ, specifically through adoption! Isn’t that what Christ did for us? Jesus Christ stepped into our broken mess and loved us so much that he laid down his life for you and for me. Because Christ died in our place, we may be adopted into God’s family. What a beautiful picture of love and sacrifice! We hope to reflect Christ love through adopting and raise our child to know and follow Jesus. We are learning to trust God in His call on our lives through adoption.

Throughout this journey God has shown His presence through people, “God moments,” and abundant peace in this calling. We are so grateful to LifeSong for partnering with us and Forever Adoption and Highview Baptist Church for their generous matching grants. Every dollar we receive from generous donors goes directly toward adoption expenses. We fulfilled those matching grants through our previous fundraiser and generous donors! Thank you for being apart of our adoption journey, whether in prayer or in giving. Our community has truly been an immense blessing!

How the Lord continues to move…

November 11, 2019

We have been reflecting on all that has been happening over the past year. Just one year ago, we shared with family and friends that we were intending to grow our family through adoption. Tanner and I were sure of two things: The Lord had asked us to trust Him with this journey He was leading us to, and that we needed funding! With incredible optimism, we planned, researched, and prayed for our child. It felt like a dream that would happen someday far off.

Today we stand in awe of God’s provision and care over this journey. We have already tasted so many highs, and very real lows, but we have seen God literally move mountains to bring us to where we are today. Our need was great… $42,000 great! Through the generosity of an impossibly long list of people and organizations, we stand at $40,000 and counting! We have received charitable matching grants from Forever Adoption and Highview Baptist church, some very generous donations, and about five fundraisers that have helped us get to where we are today. We have seen God work through unexpected places and people, and it truly has been a work of our loving Father! It has been exhilarating, and a bit unnerving, to watch it all unfold.

As we have had so much time to reflect on His provision financially, it has been even more evident that this journey has blessed us with rich relationships with our village. They have surrounded us every step of the way. Our marriage has been tested and strengthened, and our love for God has been multiplied. We have had to rely on people and the Lord unlike any other time in our lives, and it has been humbling to see that our journey has not just been about bringing our baby home. It has been more than we could have ever dreamed possible!

From where we sit today, we are looking to be active with Faithful Adoption Consultants any day now. A consultant will walk with us in the coming days as we received intake of expectant mothers and choose who we will present our profile book to. We will be seeking to be an advocate for the expectant mother the Lord matches us with and to love her well. FAC will be an amazing help as we venture into the coming days!

Only the Lord knows what these upcoming months will look like, but we anticipate that God will show Himself to be our constant in the chaos. We lean heavily on the Lord who knows our child and loves them even more than we do. There is no way that we can deny His work in our lives, and we hope to continue to live as people who can give Him the glory that He is due and to live as a reflection of His kindness to all those we interact with.

With overwhelmingly grateful hearts,

Taylor and Tanner Huss
