We’re Tony & Hannah Hensdill. Our story together began at a Christian camp. We were both working as camp counselors during the summer between college and adulthood. Throughout the summer our relationship grew, and as the sun set over the lake at camp, we fell in love. We dated for almost a year before we got engaged at a local park, which was perfect for our outdoorsy relationship, and were married in 2014.
We began trying in 2018 and after six months, Hannah got checked out to see if there was anything wrong. In September 2019, she went under the care of a reproductive endocrinologist. We weren’t diagnosed with any issues and are ‘unexplained’. We tried medicated cycles, IUIs, and IVF. We had a chemical pregnancy through our struggle and two failed IVF transfers. We began to feel a small stir that maybe God had other plans for our family, and started to pray through adoption. When our second IVF transfer failed, we were more than heartbroken. Working on two teachers’ salaries, we needed time to recoup our funds and recover emotionally. Out of answers, money, and emotional space, we were done with treatments.
During this time, we prayed about adoption. In September 2021, we took an exploratory adoption course offered through the adoption ministry at our church. We learned so much and began to pray over which course of adoption and agency to choose. We looked for adoption agencies and three met our needs. Only one was currently accepting families- Lifeline. God made it abundantly clear which agency we were to use. I have found so much comfort in that. I also have loved the staff and their heart for sharing Christ’s love to moms in crisis. Every step of this process with lifeline has been covered in prayer. There is peace for us as we move through this adoption journey. I know that it won’t be easy, but I can clearly see the hand of God with us along the way. That gives me great comfort to know that we are walking where God has called us.
We know that God has called us to be parents. We long for a baby that will always call our house ‘home’, call us Mommy and Daddy, and allow us the privilege of late-night snuggle time, diapers, and bottles. We ask that you consider donating to our $5000 matching grant from Lifesong for Orphans, knowing that you will help fill in the huge financial gaps that failed infertility treatments and exploratory surgeries have unfortunately helped create. Each dollar you donate will be matched, doubling your contribution! Thank you for taking the time to consider us and God bless you and your family!
