Hebison Family Adoption

Mary Hebison
Mary Hebison Belton, Texas

We have hoped for adoption to be a part of our story since our dating days. Our journey to adoption has been anything but linear: infertility, miscarriage and infant loss have all been a part of our story, but so has God’s faithfulness. Now, we wait placement with a domestic infant through Christian Homes and Family Services.

Ways you can support us:

1.     Pray for our family as we prepare to receive a new child into our home and that we would be spiritually, emotionally, mentally and financially ready to care for our child. Also, pray for the child and the mother who is currently carrying him or her. Pray for a healthy pregnancy and delivery and that the birth family would draw near to the Lord through this process.

2.     Consider supporting us financially. Our adoption will cost over $31,000. We are thankful that Lifesong and Legacy 685 have partnered with us to help fund our adoption. Legacy 685 is providing a $3,500 matching grant, meaning for every penny you donate, we will receive a matching amount from them.

3.     Share our story! We are hoping that our story will cultivate a love for adoption in others.

Thank you for your love, prayers, and support!

Here is more of our story:

Our “original plan” for growing our family was to have a biological child first and then adopt. Unfortunately, we encountered a year and a half of infertility. Though the fertility challenges were disappointing, we knew God had equipped us to be parents and given us a heart for children. Accordingly, we knew that he would provide one way or another. We chose to begin looking into adoption agencies and pursue growing our family that way. Our attention was drawn to Christian Homes and Family Services (CHFS) through multiple references. We saw how this agency not only sought to provide a Christian home for babies but loved and cared for their biological families as well. Though adoption is beautiful, it is not without grief for both the biological and adoptive families. CHFS works closely with those under their care to meet the holistic needs of all families involved. If adoption is to be a picture of God’s love, should the love not be shown to all parties involved?

The intricacies of adoption are daunting, and we’ve faced many challenges in the midst of it, but we have seen the Lord faithfully love us through them. A couple of months after we decided to begin the process, we had some very troubling times. It began with a failed pregnancy. The grief of an unexpected miscarriage put a brief stall on our adoption process. We were forced to fully lean on God. He showed us how he can use his church to care for his own. Anytime we had a need—physical or emotional—a fellow believer was there to keep us going. It fully reassured us that we were ready to be parents, so we finished our paperwork and were placed on a list to be matched with a birthmother.

A year after our miscarriage, as we were preparing our hearts and home for an addition of a child, our adoption came to a grinding halt. We once again discovered that Mary was pregnant. This pregnancy felt like a miraculous gift from the Lord. Our friends and family were thrilled for us and came alongside us in our fears and excitement. We were surprised by this turn of events, afraid of another loss, and grieving the postponement of our adoption. Unfortunately, 6 months into the pregnancy, our son Emmett Eli was born prematurely. His birth was sudden and traumatic, but he survived and was brought to the NICU. We got to spend a full day with him before our worst fears came true and he died, 26 hours after his birth.

After Emmett’s death, Mary felt a strong need for redemption, to try again to have a successful pregnancy. The Lord was very kind, and in October of the following year (2019), we welcomed a screaming, healthy baby girl. Mary’s pregnancy had been difficult, but we saw God’s faithfulness throughout, and ultimately saw it when we got to bring our sweet girl home.

As our daughter grew older, we knew we were ready to add to our family once more. We never wavered from the hope of one day completing our adoption. Our family and friends have supported us through our many challenges and are equally as supportive in our adoption. We are thankful to see God’s faithfulness through the love his Church is showing us and are confident he will continue to show his faithfulness through this adoption.
