Hello!!! Thank you for taking the time to read a bit of our adoption story!
Our names are Jay and Melissa and we live in Maui, HI with our two kids, Micah (7) and Judah (5). Jay works as an operations manager at a telecommunication company and as a pastor/church-planter. Melissa is a full-time mom. We both knew we wanted to adopt before we were married! (We will be celebrating our 10-year anniversary on 5/17/2019) Having finally settled in Hawaii, we believe now is the time!
We desire to adopt, even though there are other means that we could grow our family, because of the great need and primarily because of the great love which our Heavenly Father has shown to us. Because He has sought and pursued, and given of Himself at great cost (namely His own Son), we now have been adopted into God’s very own family! What great love! It is this that propels us to pursue a child through adoption.
Our desire to adopt also comes from a desire to obey the biblical command to care for orphans and for those in need! By the way domestic adoption is set up, we will get to care for directly and love on both the birth mom and the sweet children she is putting in our care. What a great honor and privelage!
We have officially been matched with a birth mom in Arizona that is due August 22nd with TWIN boys!!!! So we will soon be welcoming these two babies into our home and are praising the Lord for granting us a sibling group to adopt! We are excited but it also has significantly increased the amount of money that we will need to raise in order to bring these little ones home! We are predicting that the total fees (including our finalization fees, post adoption visit, traveling to bring them home, etc.) will be around $55,000.
Would you join us in our journey? Consider supporting as you can. Here are some means that you can:
1.) Please pray for us. And keep praying for us… The Lord is giving faith and has given faith for each step of this process but there is temptation to be overwhelmed and fearful over all the uncertainties and unknowns. Pray for the birth parents and for our relationship with them! Pray that we would love them well and care for them in the hard decisions they are making.
2.) Consider giving money to help us fully fund the adoption. Adoption is very expensive, especially when adopting twins. The Lord is teaching us much through this aspect of adoption. The cost seems like so much and can be overwhelming to think about. But what a great cost God paid to redeem His people. Even this aspect in adoption: the great cost of it all, has taught me new depths of the gospel. Praise the Lord that He did not withhold His Son, despite the great cost. May the Lord help us to not shrink back but to persevere in the pursuit of this little one, despite the cost.
We’re estimating our costs to be around $55,000, including fees, traveling, medical care, etc. Immanuel Baptist Church has partnered with LifeSong for Orphans to provide us with a $8,000 matching grant. This means that if you give $8,000, Lifesong will match it. If we’re able to raise around $47,000, we anticipate most of our expenses being covered. Will you please consider giving to this fund to help us cover the expenses? Our goal date is July 1, 2019. All of our funds have to be received by the agency by then.
We’re thankful that you’re considering joining us on our journey of adoption, and we can’t wait to see what the Lord will do!
Mahalo nui loa! (Thank you very much)
