Growing Our Family

Monica and I have always had a strong heart for adoption. We also recognize that we have been very fortunate and consider ourselves blessed to have the resources and support we do. We have seen firsthand the impact adoption has on the lives of those involved. In fact, my Dad was adopted as a boy and several of our close friends have added to their families through adoption. While we do have two amazing daughters, we feel God has been leading us to add to our family through adoption.

We decided to adopt from India because we have both known so many wonderful people from there and we love the culture. We are excited to teach our new daughter about her Indian heritage and customs so that she grows up knowing and appreciating where she comes from.

We recognize that parenting our new adopted daughter will pose challenges we have not yet experienced. We have already begun steps to prepare for these challenges. We have invested time and effort in taking classes and reading books specifically designed to prepare us to meet the needs our new daughter will have as she transitions into her new life and as part of our family. We are very fortunate to have a strong support system of friends and family including a local adoption support group.

We hope that we have been able to help you better understand our hearts and the motivation behind our decision to adopt from India. We cannot wait to welcome our new daughter home and begin loving and caring for her.

Our hope is that you will join us on this amazing journey. Whether through prayer, words of encouragement or financially we welcome you to walk with us. It’s an exciting time for the Rich family and we want to share our experiences with you and your family. We cannot wait to see what God has planned.

Matching!

January 4, 2020

Aren’t the holidays a crazy time? Every year the month or so between Thanksgiving and New Years seems to fly by. And I don’t know about you but the late Thanksgiving this year messed up my internal Christmas clock! We only got up about 75% of the Christmas decorations and completely failed at getting out a card. Some of that can probably be blamed on the short time between Thanksgiving and Christmas but in our house we had other distractions too! This has lead to a bit of a delay in posting updates but the Riches have some news for you!

We were so excited on December 13th to learn that India had accepted us into their national adoption program (CARINGS)! At the time of our application to the program our agency told us that the current wait times were 16 to 20 week and we have seen people on Facebook waiting 30 plus. We officially submitted our application on the 18th of October meaning we waited only eight weeks to be approved! We still cannot believe how blessed we have been! God is amazing and he has and will continue to provide in such amazing ways!

Getting accepted into the CARINGS system meant our agency was able to begin looking for available children who matched well with our family. Our family coordinator called us the day we got approved to discuss some ot the information we provided and to further refine her search. To be honest I think this was one of the harder parts of the process so far. We had to get really specific about what types of needs we were prepared to take. Unlike our initial quick pass over a worksheet of potential special needs things became much more real on the phone. With each question our coordinator asked I knew there was likely a child that was being impacted and yet we had already established a standard of how supporting these needs would impact Missy and Stella. And so even when it was hard we had to hold to that standard and admit that we would not be able to support some specific needs.

We completed that call and the agency went to work scouring the CARINGS database for a child that might be our future daughter. Only a couple weeks later on December 26th we received a profile for an amazing 4 year old girl! We were provided recent pictures and videos as well as all of her medical and behavioral evaluation reports. In the pictures and videos you can see that she is alert and affectionate. She runs, plays cricket and actively plays with both the orphanage workers and the other children. We fell in love and after reviewing the provided evaluations with some specialists we accepted the referral on December 28th

We are so excited about what God is up to and how this little girl is coming to join our family! There is still a lot of time and paperwork ahead but we are so grateful that you have chosen to follow along and support us through this process. Over the next 9 to 15 months as we wait for the courts to do their thing we will do our best to keep you updated on the process. Thank you again for your support and prayers.
