Gregory Family Adoption

Joel & Jessica Barberton, Ohio

Hello, and thank you for visiting our page and prayerfully considering supporting us in our adoption journey. We believe wholeheartedly that God is leading us in this journey. We believe adoption is the heart of God. He adopts us as His sons and daughters when we connect our lives to Jesus! Our response to this gift is worship and following Him with our life. We recognize this gift came with a cost; Jesus’ life for us. As members of His family, we want to live a life in response to what He has done for us. In growing our family through adoption, this is one of the ways we can and get to do that.

We’ve talked about adoption for many years, yet recently have put action to that conversation. We felt an intense stirring in our hearts this year and it seemed as we opened up to it, God continued to confirm in various ways that this is His plan for our family.  Initially we were hesitant to pursue an international adoption and did not entertain that conversation, however, after speaking with some friends who have adopted internationally, we decided we should consider that.  We discussed it and prayed that night that God would make it very clear to us exactly where He wanted us to adopt from.  The very next morning I (Jessica) had a message on Facebook from an Indian lady who is a missionary in India with her husband.  She was asking us to consider sponsoring an orphan in India. We only knew this lady through mutual friends.  As we continued to pray, we believed this was a part of God giving us clarity in this decision.

With our age we are limited in where we can adopt from but India happens to be one of the countries we are eligible for.  As we began to research India, our hearts began to break for the children there.  At over 30,000,000 orphans, they have the largest number of orphans and abandoned children in the world.  In their culture these children would be referred to as “untouchables.”  Adoption is frowned upon and there is no foster care system.  It’s normalized to see children on the streets begging for food.  Orphanages are full and can’t hold near the amount of children in need of care and a place to live.  While we know we can’t solve this heartbreaking reality, we can help one or possibly 2 children and give them a home and a family and we feel God has put it on our hearts to pursue this. We eagerly await getting to meet the child(ren) that God has planned for our family.

In total we need about $40,000 for this adoption and we trust that God is going to provide that. We have been awarded $10,000 in matching grants from Gregory’s Gift Adoption Fund + Lifesong for Orphans.  This means every dollar donated by our community will be matched up to $10,000!  We are so grateful for these grants and also incredibly grateful for our community that wants to rally around us and support us on this journey.
