Grace Upon Grace: An Adoption Story

Steve LaMotte Dover, Delaware

In 2014, Andrea and I traveled to China for the first time to bring home Malachi, a (then) fourteen month old boy to become part of our family. It was an incredible experience and we continue to see God’s grace working in his life: from the healing he experienced to the love that he shares so freely.

Now, in 2017, we are just a few steps away from adopting another little boy from China who needs a forever home. We have experienced God’s grace through Malachi and believe that God’s grace is at work to give a home, a family, and love to another boy. Grace upon grace.

We are asking (prayerfully) for your help. Our paperwork has been sent to China and we have our LID (Log-In Date) which means we are close to being available to be matched with a child. This means we need to raise the remaining fees necessary so we can adopt as soon as possible. Through Lifesong for Orphans, we have received a $6,000 matching grant. It we can raise $6,000 from friends and family (and strangers) then we’ll receive an additional $6,000 from Lifesong! This is an incredible opportunity.

Would you join us in praying for our son who is waiting for us in China? Would you prayerfully consider supporting our goal to raise $6,000 to make this dream a reality?

That Escalated Quickly…

March 10, 2017

Wow!

That’s about all we can say at this point.

2 nights ago we went on Facebook live to give a brief update about our adoption and the grant we received through Life Song for Orphans. We were about $500-$1000 away from reaching the $6,000 goal and funding the matching grant.

Well, in 60 minutes you donated $1450!

The next morning, we received another $425, bring our 12 hour total to $1875! (the video has been view 1,400 times- which is also incredible.)

We are so grateful for our family and friends who have helped us fund the matching grant. You are such a blessing to each of us and remind us of the importance of community and friendship. God has given us an incredible support system! We thank God for being such a blessing in our lives!

While the grant has been fully funded, you can still donate on our behalf to Life Song for Orphans. We estimate that we need to save/raise between $10,000-$16,000 to have enough money on hand for the adoption. Our goal is to have the money on hand so that when we have a match that we can travel to China at the earliest possible date. We do not want money to make us wait to bring our new son into our family!

Please keep us in your prayers. Pray for our son that God would prepare him to be part of our family. Pray for our son’s health as we are in the minor/correctable special needs program. Our prayer is for a healthy boy and that we are capable of handling whatever medical needs he might have. Pray for our children, especially Malachi, as they prepare to have a new brother. Pray for us for wisdom in making our Party of Five a Party of Six!

And Now We Wait…

January 26, 2017

Good morning! First, thanks to those who have been first here to support our adoption financially and help us as we work to get the most out of our matching grant. Specifically, thanks to Molly, Terriane, Stephanie, Mary, Paige, Sally and Lauren. You’re the trailblazers. Thank you to those who have shared our page with your friends. This gives us a reach that we could not have on our own.

Last week, we had our conference call with Bethany Christian who is our adoption agency. This call was about our openness to children with a variety of special needs and known conditions (because there are always the unknown conditions). This call is somewhat awkward in that you have to say whether or not you will accept a referral of a child with condition a, b, c, or d (or some combination). Ultimately, what it means is that you have to know your family situation and be willing to say yes or no based on what is best for your family.

This is the final step to being able to matched up with a child for adoption. We had previously received our LID (Log-In Date) with the Chinese government. This means that we are in their system and official are eligible to be matched with a child. Now that we have had our Openness call, our adoption agency can ‘go to work’ for us to keep their eyes open for a match that best fits our family. In the adoption world, this is “hurry up and wait.” We’ve worked through our paperwork as fast as we can so that we can get into line (so to speak) of finding a match.

What’s next?

  1. We pray for the young boy that may already have been born who is waiting to become part of our family. We pray for the health of that baby boy. We pray for his birth parents and the range of emotions that they are going through. We pray for our own family, who will go through seismic changes in adopting again.
  2. We will continue to raise money. We are about 5% of our goal of raising $6,000 through family and friends so that we can get access to the full $6000 matching grant. We are so grateful for those who would consider supporting this effort financially.
