Goodwin Adoption Story

Megan Goodwin Burlington, North Carolina

We are the Goodwin family and it is our prayer to adopt two siblings through Lifeline Children’s Services. We have 3 biological kids that share our desire to grow our family. Our heart for adoption began in 2017, when we became foster parents and a foster family. We welcomed Joseph, our foster son, into our home in 2018. Through Joseph, we learned the true meaning of love. We not only loved Joseph, but learned to love his biological parents through a long journey of forgiveness.

Although Joseph’s journey was a difficult one, we were humbled and grateful to witness his reunion with his biological father in December 2019. As much as we would have loved to adopt Joseph, we trust in God’s greater plan for his life. Our family has so much more love to give, and we believe that adoption is the path that God has called us to.

We understand that adoption is rooted in loss, but we also believe that God can create beautiful things out of ashes. As a family, we are looking forward to an open adoption, if it is the Lord’s will. We know that our family is unique, but we are confident that adoption is the path that God has called us to, and we are committed to obeying His call.

As we fundraise we want to celebrate that we have been awarded $6,500 in matching grants from Josiah’s Adoption Fund and Lifesong for Orphans. We thank you for your prayers and generosity as we fundraise towards our goal of adoption. Because we are adopting siblings our adoption fees are higher than most. The funds we raise will go towards our placement fee through Lifeline, toward the attorney fees, and assisting with any out of state travel we may be required to do. If the adoption takes place out of our home state we are expected to live in the birth state for 2 - 4 weeks.

The bible verses we cling to throughout this adoption journey are:

  • James 1:27 – Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

  • Romans 5:4 – endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope
