Gajan in Taiwan

Taylor Gajan Pearland, Texas

Thank you for reading about our adoption journey: Our story starts back in 2005, when Taylor was 16 years old. So we thought a timeline of events might be helpful.

2006-2008Taylor felt a strong pull towards the thought of adoption at a young age and pursued a social work education in college to learn more about how to become involved. When Joe and Taylor started seriously dating, Taylor made sure Joe was on board to adopt in the future.

2009: Joe and Taylor attended an adoption conference through our church. We were able to learn together about the domestic and international need for adoption. It was during that time we had an interest in adopting from an Asian country. There is no rhyme or reason why, but it was a common interest we found.

2011: We got married right after graduating college and we thought it was important to wait at least 5 years before thinking about children. During those years, Taylor started working at a foster/adoption agency and started an adoption ministry at her church, so she was fulfilling her passions to serve these families. It was not our family’s time to pursue adoption, so this was a way to love on vulnerable children and hopeful families.

2016-2018: Fast forward a few years and we had our two biological children and it wasn’t until after our second was born that Taylor started feeling like “our family isn’t complete yet.”

2020: We took a 9 year anniversary trip in November and talked through our reasons for adoption. We agreed that this is a calling that God placed on our family. Our desire to adopt goes much deeper than providing a new home and life for a child. It is living out our faith, being obedient to the things God has called us to, and raising our family to know how deeply they are loved by our Heavenly Father. We are providing hope for our children and giving them a sense of identity and value.

2022: In Spring of 2022, we decided to take the steps to start our journey. Taylor quickly dove all in to find the right agency, specifically in Asia. We had a few countries we had to narrow down so we invited our children to pray with us. Our 6 year old daughter told us one night after praying: “God wants us to adopt a baby from the one that sounds like swan (aka Taiwan).” It gave us a good chuckle but also showed us the importance of inviting our children into this process. This is a family decision and journey.

We have always said “not everyone is called to adopt, but everyone is called to do something.” That is our desire for our family, to engage in our community and network of people to come together and bring this child to his/her forever family. We are excited to see our friends/family come together all for this one child! We are mostly looking forward to telling our adopted child how many people loved, provided, and encouraged us before they even know who he/she was.

FUNDING UPDATES: Adoption comes at a financial cost and we are saving money, applying for grants, and working on fundraisers to get us to our $40,000 goal! We have graciously been awarded $8,500 in matching grants from Legacy 685 Adoption Fund and Lifesong for Orphans. We hope to raise at least $8,500 from friends, family, and supporters to help meet our matching goal! Will you prayerfully consider being apart of our child’s story to help bring him/her home?
