Brandon and I felt God tugging out heart toward adoption many years ago. We researched for a long time and really felt like an open adoption with a local agency was the way we were supposed to go. We love Houston and we really wanted to do something that served our city so we chose a small agency that does amazing work helping woman around our city. We signed papers with them in November and began the work of our home study, all the while praying for the birth momma that we would meet. We didn’t kow it at the time but at the same time we signed, a young lady found out she was pregnant with our future son. Our home study was a long and boring process full of mountains of paperwork. We finished that and were approved on May 5th. On May 4th, that same young woman spoke at a local gala for a pregnancy center that guided her through her pregnancy. After the gala she spoke with a representative from our agency and told them that she had made an adoption plan but needed an agency. Our agency counseled her and she very quickly chose our family to parent her son. We were blown away when we got the phone call that we had been chosen. We were prepared for this process to take at least a year. Her baby boy was due in five weeks! We met with the birth momma and then a week later with her and the birth father. They were loving and caring people who wanted the best for their son. They didn’t have a consistant relationship and they wanted their son to have a loving home with a mom and dad who loved each other. We had a great connection with them and made plans for the future. Two weeks before the baby was due we got the word that his birth momma was headed to the hospital. We were shocked (and not quite ready!). Before we knew it, Rowan James was here and in our arms. One of the best parts of falling in love with Rowan was his name. Rowan James was one of the names we had loved while naming our two biological sons. At our first meeting, his birth mother told us that she had already picked out a name for him: Rowan James. We loved that God put that confirmation in this story. He was named and meant to be in our family right from the beginnin. We smiled when we walked into the hospital room and saw “Rowan James” written on the board. His birth mother and father kept their word and signed him over to us three days after he was born. We cried and prayed with him and reassured them that we would love him unconditionally. God has shown himself time after time and we are so humbled by what He has done in Rowan’s little life.
We are raising money to cover Rowan’s adoption costs. We have been awarded a $2500 matching grant from Northside Christian Church Adoption Fund, administered by Lifesong for Orphans.
