From Poland to Nepal

Our Adoption Testimony

We have been burdened about adoption and orphan care since very early in our marriage, but living overseas as missionaries in Nepal for over seven years has opened our eyes in a much greater way to the tremendous need for children to have loving forever families. We have a number of friends here who have grown up in orphanages and are surrounded by constant reminders of this need. It burdens our hearts deeply to see first-hand, orphans who are alone, neglected, and unloved. Because of this great need, we want to do all that we can and give a loving family and safe home to children who are in need.

God first burdened our hearts to adopt siblings while fostering teen brothers who had aged out of a orphanage here in Nepal. Parenting them opened our eyes to the deep heartache and trauma that children face growing up without a family to love and protect them. We love those boys very much and have done our best to help them find healing and hope and show them God’s love.

Since the time they left home, we have felt God leading us to grow our family and open our hearts and home once again. We believe that God will continue to guide us and give us the strength for what He calls us to do. We understand that adoption starts with loss and heartache, but we also believe adoption is a beautiful picture of our own salvation and an opportunity to show Christ’s wonderful love to orphans and make them part of our family like God has brought us into His family.

It was early last year that God first burdened our hearts about adopting from the country of Poland. Since that time it has been exciting to see God guiding our way and confirming in our hearts His direction.

There is a Polish (brother/sister) sibling group that God has specifically laid on our hearts. Our dossier is in Poland and we are now waiting to receive our official referral for these two precious children.

We are learning to trust God’s timing for each step of our adoption journey. It is our goal to enjoy and celebrate each of the victories God gives along the way. Through our adoption process, God has also been growing us individually and as parents and teaching us patience and faith in Him.

The Need

We are very excited to announce that Lifesong for Orphans has awarded our family a generous matching grant!  Every dollar donated will be matched, up to $3000! Your help with this would be a tremendous blessing and a much needed help to bring our children home.

We have personally put over $18,000 toward our adoption already. Many may not realize it, but our expenses will total almost $50,000 before we can complete the adoption! Like most people, we don’t have that money laying around and we are stepping out in faith for this adoption that we believe God has called us to.  Living overseas in Nepal severely limits us when it comes to traditional funding options and resources for fundraising, but we are trusting the Lord to provide for this tremendous need. We hope that you will prayerfully consider how the Lord might be able to use you to help.

"Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." 1 Thessalonians 5:24

Our Story Continued

February 9, 2018

As many of you know, we are pursuing a brother/sister sibling group for adoption from the country of Poland.

We first learned of these precious children in January 2017, near the beginning of our adoption process and we felt a special connection. We believe that God gave us a special burden for this precious brother and sister, but just a few days later we received news that all Polish international adoptions had been shut down and each child would need to be re-qualified for adoption.

Several months later, after our home study was finished, we asked our adoption agency if these children had been re-qualified for adoption. We gave them a simple description of a photo we had seen many months ago and asked that they make an inquiry on our behalf.

After seven months of patiently waiting we were excited to learn that this sibling group had been re-qualified for adoption locally under the new system and were expected to be fully re-qualified for international adoption very soon. We had our home study specifically updated to match their ages and made the decision to move forward to pursue adopting these precious children that God had laid on our hearts.

However, the international re-qualification process has taken much longer than expected and last week after several months of waiting our agency suggested the possibility of considering other children that have already been re-qualified for international adoption.

Rob and I talked and prayed about this and we both felt strongly that we should not give up unless God clearly shut the door.

We had a Skype meeting with our (WONDERFUL)adoption agency on Tuesday and discussed our decision and they were very supportive and helpful. We were able to write a request letter that is being sent to Poland on our behalf and…

WE RECEIVED THIS UPDATE FROM OUR ADOPTION AGENCY YESTERDAY:

“…the children’s documents are at the Ministry and in line to be processed! He did say that with the speed of how Ministry is processing documents and where these kids are in the line, he still anticipates another 2-3 months before they are completely processed. The Ministry is aware of you and your desire to adopt these children. He said they will keep it in mind when processing their files.”

While waiting is still difficult we are so thankful to receive this encouraging news. Please continue to pray with us!

“The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.” Proverbs 27:7
