Freeman Family Adoption

Katie Freeman West Columbia, South Carolina

Hi! We are the Freeman family from Columbia, SC. We have been married for almost ten years and have two beautiful biological daughters who are 4 and 2. Katie is a teacher and Matt is the Associate Director of Worship and Music for the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

We believe that God has called his church to care for widows and orphans, and because we have the space in our hearts and home for another child, we have prayerfully decided to pursue international adoption. Adoption is something we have talked about for a long time, and by God’s leading, we know now is the right time to step into this journey. We have been accepted by Lifeline to adopt a child from Colombia, South America!

We have both traveled out of the country many times and have always felt a draw to cultures different than our own. We look forward to helping our child celebrate his birth culture in our family. Our girls are already so excited about going to pick up their new sibling and bring him or her home! They have been working on their Spanish! Most of all, we want to help a child come to know and love Jesus through our home.

We want to be open and transparent about this process with our community, in hopes of encouraging others on their journeys in caring for orphans. We truly believe that our lives are not our own and we are called to give them to the Lord. We trust his work and his provision. We know he will be our source of strength through the whole adoption process. Adoption is costly for all involved, and we know that is not just financially. It’s costly for our child, for us, for our immediate family, and for our community.

We believe we are called to follow our Savior who gave up his life to make us His. We are stepping into that call, trusting that God loves adoption and he will provide to meet our every need. We have already seen this provision in many ways, and now we have been awarded a 4000.00 matching grant by Lifesong. Every dollar given up to that amount will be matched!

We made our goal high because, with the matching grant, this number would completely cover the adoption. We will be saving funds as well and will keep our need updated as we are able to make agency payments, pay fees, and prepare for travel expenses.

Thank you for following and supporting our journey. We can’t wait to have our little one home!
