Four Adoptions in Five years!

Erin Corash Walsenburg, Colorado

Our family is a chosen family, grafted together from many trees to make one beautiful tree. We have four kiddos in our family, L, H, E, and our new little baby M. With grateful hearts we are pleased to say we received a match grant for baby M of $6,000 from Lifesong for Orphans which means the world to us.

Tom and I got married knowing we wouldn’t be able to have children of our biology and also knowing that we really wanted a family. God led us to foster care and providing a home for children who needed it. Turns out, after getting foster certified, instead of getting kids through the foster system we got our great niece and nephew through emergency guardianship. Eventually it turned into permanent guardianship and now, five years later, we hope to formally adopt them. They are absolutely crazy wonderful kids and we are so blessed to have them in our lives.

A few years after L and H came into our immediate family, we were blessed with another daughter, E. E joined our family through domestic adoption, she suffered a birth injury that resulted in severe brain traumaoo. This has led to many health challenges and was our introduction to raising medically complex children. E is amazingly strong and fights for every little developmental step. After E, we felt led to bring home one more.

This year, God once again called us to special needs domestic adoption. Seven months later, we were blessed with baby M. She is a little piece of heaven we are blessed with. Similar to E, baby M suffered a brain injury though hers was in utero during the fourth month of gestation. This led to her brain not forming correctly resulting in microcephaly, hydrocephalous, as well as a kidney injury. We are learning along the way about other needs and things she has. We have spent a few days every week since bringing her home in either the ER, as an inpatient at hospital, or in a doctor’s office trying to figure out what all is happening with her. She is a beautiful five month old now but still weighs 9 lbs 10 oz, she is tiny. She is a little wiggle worm and tends to do circles in her bassinet. She is beautiful and we are so thankful for her.

We are so happy that you have taken the time to get to know us a little and for considering a donation to help us receive our match grant. We are grateful for your prayers and support in bringing together our little family.

Hospitals, doctors, and no sleep, perfect baby.

September 26, 2023

We’ve spent the last two months in and out of doctors offices and the ER meeting with specialists and dealing with illness. Bringing home baby M has sure been an adventure. She is still tiny, just under 11lbs even though she is six months old in three days! We have been to the doctors, the ER, and specialists at least once every week since brining her home. We are headed back to the doctors again today for a reoccurring fever. She also seems to think that the only way to sleep is when she is held, to be fair I am pretty certain its because it helps with her dystonia. She has been waking up every night between 1am and 3am which means no sleep for mama. She is perfect though and we are so very blessed to have her in our family.
