Ford Adoption Journey

Kamie Ford Ardmore, Oklahoma

Caring for orphans became a priority for each of us in our early adult years, before we met and married. We came to believe that to live in obedience to the Lord meant to care for orphans.

Soon after we married, we became foster parents. Each of the children that came into our home showed us the importance of consistency and permanence for their growth and security. While we are thankful to be a part of their lives when they need us, we also rejoice when they are reunited with family. Being involved in the foster care system was hard and challenged us to grow as parents. Through our foster journey, we began to feel the Lord burden us to be a permanent home for a child who needs one.

We had our daughter, Elliot, in August of 2018. As soon as we found out that we were expecting, we knew that the Lord was providing us a helper in the orphan care ministry of our home. Having a biological child was the spark that God used to propel us forward in the dreams and desires He had been growing in our hearts for years. We began to pray that God would provide and lead us as we moved forward in adoption and researched what resources and opportunities are available.

We requested information from multiple agencies about different programs: private adoption, adoption through foster care, and international adoption. We were willing to consider different options. One agency contacted us directly and suggested that we look at their South Korea program. The representative who reached out to us believed our family to be a perfect fit for the program and encouraged us to apply as soon as possible. We were approved 2 weeks later.

Phillip and I have seen God direct and provide in each step of our adoption journey. We believe that the Lord has used people and circumstances in our lives to grow our desire to adopt; and He has used Scripture to affirm that desire and set the calling on our hearts. We are privileged and eager to obey.

We have been awarded a $4000 matching grant from Karis Adoption Fund, administered by Lifesong for Orphans! This means that every dollar (up to $4000) we raise will be doubled!

Thank you for joining us in this journey! We appreciate your support, prayers, and encouragement more than you know!

With joy,

the Ford family

Matched!

October 1, 2020

Hello, friends!

We have been thrilled to finally share that in August we were matched with a beautiful little girl! There have been frustrations and aches as we have waited for the Lord to bring her, but we can see that each day of waiting had purpose and we are elated to finally see and learn about the child we have spent nearly TWO YEARS praying and preparing for… and there is still a long way to go!

Our little girl is 7 months old and in a loving home in South Korea. She is beautiful, healthy, with a full head of hair! She has the sweetest little leg rolls and toes and perfect brown eyes. She also has our hearts, completely. (I wish I could show off just how perfect she is… and how much Elliot loves to see pictures of “baby seester!”)

“Now what?”

This is usually the question we get as soon as we share about our match. Our immediate next step was to pay our agency fees (totally $23,300) and start compilng our dossier! We have spent the last month scrambling, notarizing, and mailing our documents to our agency. They reviewed everything to make sure that it was all in order and completed correctly. We were just notified that it was sent to Korea YESTERDAY, September 30, 2020.

While it may seem like a relatively small step, it feels huge. We now wait for our case to be presented to the Korean court system!

“How long will it be before you get to bring her home?”

This is usually the next question we are asked. They are estimating about 12-15 months. There are some delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so their estimation is a little longer than what it would normally be.

We are hoping and praying that she will be home before next Christmas!

HOW YOU CAN PRAY:

1) Please pray protection and peace over our girl as she grows. We are praying that she is well loved, cherished, and cared for. We are also praying that the Lord would protect her physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally; we are asking that He gives her little body, heart, and mind peace that surpasses all understanding.

2) We are also praying protection over our family, marriage, and adoption process. We are not immune from the attacks of the enemy and we know that each day we carry on in each of these areas is completely a grace from our Father; there is no way for us to muster the sustaining power necessary to persevere. He is what we need.

3) Please pray for favor over our family as we enter these next steps. We are asking the Lord to give us favor in the eyes of all who view our file. We are asking for a smooth process that moves as quickly as possible.

3) Please praise Him for the work that He has already done! We have been able to save/raise most of our funds! We have been matched with a daughter; a sister for Elliot! We have been given Gospel opportunities at each step of this process! And we have been shown even greater depths of beauty to the truth of the Gospel in our journey as we were once the orphan and have been adopted into the family of God.

Thank you for being on this journey with us! We are so thankful you are here!

With joy,

The Fords

April 2020 | Where We Are

April 16, 2020

We just wanted to give a brief update on where we are in our adoption process:

We are currently waiting for a match. That means that all of our information is in Korea with the agency there in-country. As children become elligible for international adoption, the agency looks at the families waiting for a match and chooses the best family for the child. The process is child-focused and prioritizes what is best for each child based on their specific/individual needs. We are not guaranteed a timeline, but they estimate that we will be matched during the last quarter of this year. Once we are matched with our child, we begin the paperwork and process to get him/her home! That process usually takes 12-14 additional months. Our journey will be long, but we are so thankful that you are in it with us!

As of right now, the COVID-19 pandemic has not ceased or slowed matching in Korea. Although there are some families who are unable to travel to bring their children home, our agency is continuing to serve families and children in Korea with diligence and care.

As we wait for a match, we are saving and raising the remainder of the funds necessary to bring our child home. We are also diligently praying for protection and health for our child as we navigate adoption during a global pandemic.

Thank you for your love, support, prayers, and encouragement! We could not do this without our friends and family. You are all so near and dear to our hearts.

With joy,

Kamie (Phillip & Elliot too!)
