Finding a Futrell Adoption Journey

Suzanne Futrell
Suzanne Futrell Beaufort, South Carolina

We have BIG news!

We are adopting a child from Hungary! We began to talk about adoption when we were dating. We both knew that God was calling us to grow our family through adoption and/or fostering to adopt one day. In the spring of 2020 Suzanne was told that she would be unable to carry children. Whereas most people would be devastated by that news, we both praised from the rooftops. That was a clear sign that now was the time to adopt. Without any hesitation we jumped online and contacted Lifeline Children’s Services. The original adoption plan was to adopt from China. We Began the process of international adoption through China that week. However, there seemed to be so many obstacles in our way. We were feeling major anxiety; we kept praying and giving our anxiety to God and he would just give it right back to us. After praying over this every day for a month, we received a message that travel was still no where on the horizon due to the pandemic. With that information, we both decided to begin researching other countries. Without hesitation, we both decided that Hungary would be the perfect fit for us. We called the agency and they quickly put us on the track of switching countries. Within a day, all of the anxiety and unrest that we were feeling went away. God gave us both the most peaceful feeling; we know we are following God’s will.

Ian is a proud father to 2 beautiful and wonderful daughters and Suzanne loves being their bonus mom, and we are really looking forward to adding another child to our family. After lots of prayer and reflection, we know that we really have a heart for adoption and can’t wait to meet our child.

We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful life into our home. We have been awarded a $3,500 matching grant funded by Josiah’s Adoption Fund, an “Outside the Walls” partner who wants to support Lifesong for Orphans adoptive families.

We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he/she grows up. It truly takes a village, and we are thrilled that you are part of our village!
