We are high school sweethearts! We met in a middle school youth group and started dating in high school. I (Erika) was drawn to Zack for his unique sense of self/confidence and his kindness to others despite being introverted and an awkward high schooler! I (Zack) first noticed Erika when we were about 13 and remember thinking “I need to get to know this girl. She is really pretty!” As we began to date, I quickly learned that beyond beautiful she had incredible values and a willingness to serve the community.
We dated through high school, college, and graduate school. A total of five years after we started dating, we got engaged! We married in our college town on October 4th, 2014. It was a beautiful, crisp and windy fall day in the mountains surrounded by family and friends!
We love doing life together! The first couple years of our marriage, we lived in Virginia. Though we loved our home and cherish the memories we made there, we are excited for our next adventure. We recently moved to Texas as Zack was called to work in a ministry here. As a family, we love exploring new places, being outside in nature, and visiting with friends and family. We are so excited to continue to grow our family through love and faith.
WHY WE ARE ADOPTING
We have had a strong desire to adopt for many years. When we were dating and talking about the future, we talked about adoption as a possible part of our story together. So as soon as we were married, we began saving!
The desire to adopt grew in each of us independently over the years through walking alongside co-workers who were adopting and interactions with adoptive families in our community. As we grew in our Christian faith, we were even more encouraged to adopt as a physical manifestation of how God has adopted us and the unconditional love that He has displayed toward us. We finally came to the conclusion to start the process when we both felt the Holy Spirit leading us to start in 2017.
Adoption has been on our minds and in hearts since we started our relationship and we are so excited that we have been led here and the time is right for us to grow our family through this process.
Update: We are MATCHED!!!
