“Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; He sets the prisoners free and gives them joy….” -Psalms 68:5-6
It is the desire of our hearts to adopt two children from Togo, West Africa. This desire is not a lightly made decision, but rather a six-year divinely inspired endeavor to bring the two children that we believe are already a part of our family home. My husband Duane and I have been married twenty years. We are grateful to come from families of strong faith in Jesus; we have enjoyed being involved in the church, community, and missions for our entire lives. Duane and I have three children, one son-in-law, and two grandsons. Our adoption journey began ten years ago in 2007 through prayer. It was around this time that our pastor started an organization, Clean Water for Togo. During a well dedication trip in 2010, our pastor met Mamma Yayra. She cared for 34 children in a ten by thirteen foot adobe hut. He promised to come back and build her the orphanage. When I heard about the orphanage, God stirred in me a love for people across the world I had never met! My first trip to Togo, West Africa was in 2011 to help build the orphanage. It was on this trip that God began to reveal His purpose for our family. As a family, we have prayed for so many years for two siblings we believe are the missing part of our family. Through five trips to Togo, for six years our family has been specifically praying for adoption in Togo and meeting with the Togo government. God gave me a deep motherly love for children I hardly knew in 2011. Through our ministry in Togo, we have been connected with eight other families who want to adopt from Togo but do not know the way. I am praying our adoption opens the door, not only for our precious children, but many more children to find forever loving Christian families. During this time, we have also been able to connect with a wonderful person who had helped two American families adopt from Togo. Recently, we were blessed to meet one of the families. Then we begin the home study process in April 2017. At the end of our home study, our adoption coordinator said she had been praying and she felt we should contact Faith International Adoptions. Praise the Lord after so many closed doors God opened the door through this agency that agreed to help us bring our precious children home from Togo.
Last fall, our family decided to step out in faith and share our hearts with more people. We have been very humbled by the generosity of others through the process of adoption. God continues to show His favor each step. Through His grace and generous hearts of others we have paid everything up until the In-Country Cost, more Agency fees, and travel expenses. All our Dossier papers are almost translated, and we are waiting on US approval. Then our Dossier will be sent to Togo, we will be officially “matched” to our children. Then, if we have our money raised, we will be approved for travel. SO EXCITING! We ask that you please consider being a part of our adoption journey. By assisting us financially, our children will get to come home faster than we could make happen on our own. These two children are the missing pieces that I began praying to find ten years ago. Help me never have to leave our children again.
We are so excited to receive a matching grant!!
