On April 13 of this year, we tragically lost our youngest son Andris after a second relapse of leukemia. Growing up in an orphanage, his dream was to be part of a family. As he suffered and battled this disease, he was surrounded by love and the best medical care available. We are so grateful that he was not alone in an institutional setting. When Andris grew up, he wanted to adopt. He wanted to give back the blessing of being part of a family that he had received.
This beautiful verse (Psalm 68:5-6) challenges us to respond to the needs of orphans: “A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows is God in His holy habitation. God sets the solitary in families." God’s solution for orphans is the place them in families!
On June 21, our adoption agency contacted us by email with this note, “We just received some new profiles for two sisters in Bulgaria, and I couldn’t help but think of you!” As we prayerfully looked over the profiles of these two precious sisters who have a simple request to be part of a forever family our hearts were moved to action.
One obstacle that stood in the way for us was the financial cost involved in an international adoption. The estimate to adopt two children internationally is $35,000.00. As we discussed this challenge with our adoption agency, they recommended filling out a grant application with Lifesong for Orphans.
We have some exciting news! We have been approved for an $8000.00 matching grant from Lifesong. This means that for every dollar donated by friends and family, an additional dollar will be given by Lifesong ($100 will become $200 for example) up to $8000. We would like to invite you to partner with us as we begin the adoption journey and look forward to bringing Gizda and Angelina home.
STRIPE charges an online processing fee (2.2% +.30 USD per transaction)*. Your donations will be decreased by this amount. You may also send a check payable to “Lifesong for Orphans”.
