From Domestic Adoption to a Little Girl in Liberia

It all started with a challenge to pray. Pray how the Lord wants our family to live out James 1:27.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

This led to the realization that if finances were not an issue we would adopt in a heartbeat.  Which in turn led to a lot of interviewing of friends and organizations.  (Thank you to all who guided and counseled us along the way!)

Both of us felt led toward adoption, specifically through New Horizons Adoption Agency.  We began the process of domestic adoption, simply because we felt international adoption was not possible for us financially.

We started the adoption process in the Fall of 2016.  (Our daughter was born late May of 2017!)

We were shocked and awed by the way God provided the finances for every step of this adoption.  And then we waited…and waited…and waited…

It did not feel like we were taking care of orphans in their distress when there were so many waiting for a child domestically.  Eighteen months after we began we went back to prayer in reevaluation.  We began to consider transitioning to the foster care system.  There are many children in distress within this system.

We felt confused and unsure.  We began to pray that if God wanted us to step away from adoption and step toward foster care that the agency would tell us that there would not be a child for us.  THEN….quite the opposite happened!!

The agency called, and asked if we would consider international adoption.  We expressed that we would love to adopt internationally, but it was just so beyond our financial ability.  They continued to share with us that there is an orphanage in Liberia, Africa, with 6 very young children waiting for a family.  At the time, none of them were being pursued for adoption.

Our hearts broke, and it did not take long before we jumped ahead in faith to pursue one of these little children.  (Since we have begun, all 6 children are being pursued for adoption!  Two of which will be joining our church community along with our little one!!!!)

Now the plan is to go and get her in February.  There is no better Valentine’s present representing our Lord’s love for this precious child and us!

I cannot share any further regarding our sweet little one on social media, but we can through private email or snail mail.  Please contact us if you wish to receive more information.

We have been very blessed to be awarded a $3000 matching grant from Lifesong for Orphans.  Any donation we recieve will be matched by the organization up to $3000.
