We are so excited LifeSong for Orphans has partnered with us to bring our sweet baby home! They have gifted us a $2500 matching grant, which means we raise $2500, and they match that amount for a total of $5000 toward our adoption fund. How amazing is that?!
So why adoption? Why, when we’ve had two perfectly healthy biological children of our own, would we want to adopt? Isn’t adoption just for people struggling with fertility?
We think adoption makes up the threads of the Gospel and is for anyone, that it is something we are called to do as Christians who walk into the adoptive love of Christ and His sacrifice. Adopting a beautiful baby boy or girl (or both) is the ultimate way we can think of to mimic how God takes us into His family. There are so many scriptures that point us to this conclusion (see James 1:27, John 14:18, Genesis 26:4, Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:5, Ephesians 1:5). It was recently pointed out to us that Jesus Himself was adopted by Joseph! If you read Acts and many of Paul’s letters, our family become people who extend beyond those we are connected through DNA; rather, we commune together through Another’s blood and walk in our new birthrights together.
Additionally, abortion has become a hot-topic among the differing political sides of American Christians. How could one vote for a politician whose political stance justifies abortion? How could someone vote for a politician that doesn’t expand social programs to those who can’t afford to feed another mouth, regardless of prior decisions? It’s easy to find myself confused on what the answers are. Our greatest minds can’t even figure it out! Adoption is one way we feel we can make a difference in at least one life during this divided political climate and to give hope to future expecting mothers.
When Jay and I were dating, we discussed the possibility of adopting kids; since high school, both of us felt that adoption made sense and was something we carried our in hearts, so this discussion came with a lot of joy.
Now that we’ve begun walking into this journey, it comes with many fears, anxieties, and “what ifs”. We ask that you’d pray for us as we face the unknowns and would kindly point us back to these reasons whenever it gets discouraging or even heartbreaking. On the flip side, we are thrilled and excited to have a new family member join us sometime soon!
