Degitz Family Adoption

Jon and Amber Degitz
Jon and Amber Degitz Fort Wayne, Indiana

Through multiple little “godstances” and gentle nudging by The Holy Spirit over the last two years, we slowly started to pursue adoption. This year, we decided that we needed to be obedient to The Lord’s Call on our life and say YES to what he was leading us toward… adopting a little boy from Haiti!

We are so excited to fill the extra spot at our kitchen table, give an “owner” to the spare bedroom upstairs, fill the extra seat in our van with another sweet child, and add another precious little brother to our family. We believe that God has called us to this journey and that He will see us through! We are trusting in His divine provision, peace and patience as we walk with Him down this path and trust in His perfect timing with it all.

As you may know, adoptions are expensive! We have paid the initial fees for our adoption including our large dossier fee at the beginning of September!  We are now in the waiting process to be matched with our son! Once we receive a referral, we will begin paying the rest of the required fees to finally bring our sweet boy finally home!

We are so excited to have been awarded a $4500 matching grant from our amazing church home, Pathway Community Church Adoption Fund, administered by Lifesong for Orphans… so donations starting now will be matched 100% until we hit $4500! So thankful for this amazing opportunity!

We appreciate your thoughts, prayers, donations, and most of all your precious friendships and support as we walk this unknown path of adoption! We eagerly anticipate the BIG THINGS that God is going to do!

Much love and blessings,

Jon, Amber, Audrey, Josie, and Aaron Degitz

Referral!!! 🙌🏼

August 1, 2019

I have tried to write this post seventeen times…. I don’t have the words to explain how or why, except….God.

Monday night (7/30/19), Jon and I received a referral for a sweet little boy from Haiti. We are completely overwhelmed with this incredible blessing and have literally been trying to process it all since we got the call.

We submitted our paperwork to Haiti early this year and we were registered as potential adoptive parents on February 4th, 2019.

We were told it would likely be 2-3 years before we got a referral. We know many who have been waiting that long or even longer.

But, God gave us our referral in less than 6 months!

Our agency said that this is the fastest referral to Haiti that they’ve ever seen. Our sweet program director said, “All I can say is that it is a miracle!” We obviously, are so surprised and shocked, but humbly overwhelmed by God’s incredible gift to us with this quick referral! We understand the gravity of this blessing and are praising God for his provision. We continue to pray for those families who are waiting to be matched.

So….

Our little boy’s name is Adner. He will be 3 years old on August 20th and we are so in love with him already!  He is soooo handsome and has the biggest smile!  He is at one of THE BEST crèches in Haiti and we could not be more thrilled that he has been loved and cared for so well by an amazing group of people since he arrived there at 2 days old. He has had some very minor medical procedures in his short life but is otherwise happy, healthy, and from what we know so far, he is thriving. People who have met him tell us he is a happy, smiley, and active little boy who is loved by so many there at the crèche.

So, Next steps for us are to travel to Haiti for a socialization visit with Adner! Jon and I will head down sometime in the next 30 days and stay for 15 days to meet and get to know him better. While we are there, we will get to stay at the guesthouse at the crèche where he lives and are so thankful we don’t have to arrange daily transportation in Haiti.

Unfortunately after our two week visit, we will have to come home and Adner will stay there until Haiti can finalize his adoption and paperwork. This time frame is unknown but we are told the average right now is 10-12 months. Again, this is the average and we are trusting 100% in God’s perfect timing with it all. This will likely be the hardest part of our journey… being here, while he is there, knowing we are waiting on things out of our control. We rest in the peace that we know WHO is in control and we are SO THANKFUL that He knows what is best for us all.

I seriously could write a book on all that God has done to lead us up to this moment. Daily, hourly, he continues to show us that He is WITH US, and He is caring for every single little detail. We know that this journey has been COMPLETELY ordained by Him and we are so grateful to be a part of His mighty work.

Reflecting on this today, I can’t help but continually say to myself… we have done NOTHING to orchestrate this… all we did was say, “Yes.”

April update! :)

April 10, 2019

Happy April, friends and family!

Several of you have been asking for an update, so wanted to share a little bit of what’s been going on!

As far as how things are going in Haiti… it is calming down slowly, however there are still episodes of civil unrest and crime happening way too much.  In fact, just yesterday the US Embassy sent out another do not travel advisory due continued unrest.  It is disheartening to know that our kiddo (and so many other families’ children) are over there when they should be here, safe in our homes with us.  We are praying for peace in Haiti daily.

Our paperwork is safely registered with ISBER (Haiti’s Department of Child Services), and we are just waiting for a match.  We know that this wait could be up to 2 years… or even longer.  We are at total peace with this as we know that God’s mighty hand is covering our adoption every single step of the way, and we know that His timing is perfect.  We rest in that assurance, and truly do not feel anxious about when all of this will happen.  He knows and He is in control… and for that I am SO thankful!  His ways are SO much better than ours!

We will have our quarterly scheduled phone call with our agency the first week in May, and will report back with any updates we get at that time.  For now, we just continue to save and raise money, and pray for all orphans waiting to be adopted, for the families waiting to bring their children home, for the Haitian people and government. This road is long and not for the faint of heart.  We are thankful to be surrounded by amazing people who have gone before us and are currently walking through adoption along side of us too.

Speaking of raising money… let me share some amazing news with you. This past weekend, I had the amazing priviledge to join 360 other men and women who are a part of our Young Living family for a large Rally/Learning event.  It was simply amazing.  These people are truly gifts from above… each and every one.  The entire day was educational, empowering, and emotional as we were able to connect and learn together.  At the end, our amazing leader, and my precious friend, Lauren, shared that unbeknownst to us, the sales from the day (almost $6,000) were going to be split and given to us and another sweet family who is also adopting.  <3  We each recieved $3000 and were SO suprised, shocked, and overwhelmed with gratitude.  We cried for days….haha.  I cannot express the thankfulness in my heart for our Young Living family.  Our journey with oils, was totally a God thing- and it is clear now, that it was a HUGE fork in the road on a path that led us to adoption.  And now… our Young Living family, paycheck, and oils are helping us mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially as we journey along this adoption road.  Man… I can’t even believe it as I type this and it brings me to tears just thinking about it. <3  So so so humbled and thankful. What an incredible, gracious, and merciful Father we have. He loves us so lavishly.

Overall, our Lifesong fund has over $9,800 in it!!! This does not count our matching grant of $4,500 from our amazing church!  We also have a savings account in our bank, and we are totally overwhelmed by the generosity of our friends and family who have been willing to support us in our adoption.  We have paid a large chuck of money already towards our adoption and the rest will be due once we are matched, and then more afterwards to cover finalizing costs for paperwork and of course travel expenses. THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving, and supporting us.

We have 40 or so puzzle pieces left, and I’m so excited to fill them up and frame the puzzle and hang it in his room!  If you still want a puzzle piece- there is room for you! They are $10 a piece and we will write your name on the back, so we can treasure and remember each and every person who walked with us in this journey to bring our little buddy to his forever home! 🙂

Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.  We love you all, and are overwhelmed with the love we recieve from each of you.

Many blessings,

Degitz fam

Officially registered… and a prayer request.

February 13, 2019

Hello!  So sorry for the lack of communication here on this page!  We tend to post and share a lot over on our Facebook page as far as updates and things go.  You can find us here if you’re on FB: https://www.facebook.com/groups/192211874871486/.

Fundraising update!  We have officially matched and exceeded our $4500 matching grant through Lifesong/Pathway!  This is a HUGE blessing for us, and this $9,000 will go directly to our next payment which will be when we get matched with our kiddo! <3  Thank you SO much for your prayers, donations, and purchases of coffee, bracelets, and puzzle pieces.  We are SO grateful.  Our 500 piece puzzle is NEARLY FULL!!! We have only 47 pieces left!  So amazing!! I can’t wait to finish filling it up, so I can frame it and hang it on his bedroom wall with all of your precious names on it. If you want your name on here there’s still time- just let me know! 🙂  I await the day when I can turn it over and read our son your names and tell him all about each one of you, how you loved him before we knew him.  How you helped bring him home, and how people he never knew, and may never meet, helped bring him here.  What an amazing gift.  Ahhh… I get choked up thinking about that. <3

We got some exciting news on Monday February 4th when we heard from our agency that we were officially registered with IBESR (Haiti’s social service dept)!  This is so awesome because we are now “officially” waiting to be matched!  🙂  We are coming up on our ONE YEAR mark in this journey.  On Feb 14, 2018, we turned in our application to adopt from Haiti.  I can’t believe its been a whole year.  It’s been so fast, but also seems like forever at the same time! Haha!  We are thankful for this new milestone that we’ve finally reached with registration.

Many of you have asked, so now how long… and honestly we have no idea.  We do not know how long the wait to be matched will be.  Right now… the average wait is around 24 months.  We know friends who have waited much shorter, and some who have waited MUCH longer… prayers for us to be on the shorter end of that time frame (of course).  We are trusting in God’s perfect timing in this, just as His timing has been perfect thus far.  We know that this story is His and His alone.  We are thankful that we get to walk through it and experience first hand, His divine work as He puts each stepping stone in front of us as we walk.  We know that sometimes this means that He may hold off on placing that next stone down for us… for reasons we may not understand now or ever.  We know that sometimes he may actually place a stone off to the side, or take a turn that was unexpected.  We know that sometimes there may be seasons where He may place a huge cement sidewalk and we take several steps forward, and seasons where he withholds laying any stones down for a long time and we may wonder if He forgot us.  We are thankful to be a part of a large community of adoptive families who’ve traveled this journey and have reminded us that there really is NO “normal time frame” or “typical journey.”  We are thankful to have known this all along, and praying that we can remember that and have patience even when the waiting can and will be hard.

We are grateful though, for this step that was placed into registration with IBESR and looking forward with anticipation and excitement for when He will lay the next stone down.  <3

And now a prayer request.  I’d ask that you pray for Haiti.  The country is in SUCH a bad place right now.  The people are angry with the government.  There has been mismanagment and corruptness in the leadership of Haiti, leading to money that has been unaccounted for, promises that have been unkept, and thus people are frustrated.  Many people are rioting, burning cars, buildings, and homes.  They are violent, and people are being hurt.  Most of the country has been shut down from travel in or out, and this creates obvious concern for the safety of the Haitian people, missionaries there, women, children, and of course- the orphans.  Prayers for safety, peace, resolution, and that some sort of agreement or action will be takens to fix the current state of the country.  We feel helpless here in the states, knowing that we have a little boy over there, whom we do not know yet, but already love and care for.  We are praying for him, the other orphans and children who have parents/families waiting for them too.  We also pray for the people there that they would choose peace over violence, and that leadership would step up and LEAD.  We hold fast to the fact that our God is BIG AND MIGHTY and He is GOOD and His plans are PERFECT.  We know that prayer is powerful, and though we feel helpless, we know that prayer is THE MOST powerful thing we can do.  We ask that you join us in that.  We are not discouraged, we are concerned, but not afraid.  We trust that the One who brought us (and many other families to adopt from Haiti) will walk with us through this difficult time and will protect our children there.

Thank you for praying along with us. <3

Be blessed friends we are so thankful for each and every one of you!

Jon and Amber
