Our family has had a heart for caring for vulnerable and at risk children long before we began pursuing adoption. We both have experienced the grace and love of Jesus and being adopted into God’s family, and we see adoption as a beautiful picture of the Gospel. We see the call in Scripture to care for orphans and vulnerable children, and we feel one way our family has been called to do this is through adoption. God has been growing our hearts for adoption and at risk children for a long time.
Adoption isn’t just another thing our family wants to do, it is in an extension of hearts to care for the vulnerable children in our neighborhood and around the world. We know that adoption is not the answer to the orphan crisis, and we rally behind causes like maternal healthcare, child sponsorship, and nutrition programs that seek to keep families together. However, the reality is that there are children who need homes and families, and we long to provide a safe home for children that need one.
We have been in the adoptioin process to adopt from Haiti for almost four years. In December of 2021 we felt like God was telling us to pray for March 17th (no idea why). So we started praying that we would hear from our adoption agency on that day and receive a referral. Well on March 17th, the adoption agency called with a referral for a 5 year old boy, but he was not in Haiti. He was in the Dominican Republic. Also, they told us that if we were to pursue this adoption we would have to spend a total of four months in the Dominican Republic. If we had gotten that call on any other day, we likely would have said "no" and kept waiting for a referral in Haiti because God had grown our hearts for that country in many ways over the last four years. But it was March 17th! So we said, "yes!"
His name is Jorge, and he is 5 years old. We are so excited! He has significant medical needs so we are hoping everything continues to move quickly.
We are expecting to begin travel to the Dominican Republic in mid-September, and we are hoping to raise money for the living expenses, travel, and Jorge's medical needs. We, both, have to stay in country for a full month, and then one of us will continue to live there with Jorge for another three months. We would love for you to be a part of bringing Jorge home.
