Hi there! Thanks for stopping by! We are Ben and Jenae Daniels, and we are currently in the process of adopting a four-year-old boy from Liberia. Since 2013, we've lived in Jakarta, Indonesia, and worked as teachers at an international Christian school. Adoption has always been our first choice to grow our family, and as teachers, we have seen the need all children have for a loving and stable home. Additionally, living and traveling overseas has given us a heart for international adoption.
In 2017, we started pursuing the possibility of adopting from Indonesia. After a year of dead ends and closed doors, the process was officially over when the only US adoption agency in Indonesia was closed down. With broken hearts, we assumed our time in Indonesia was over. In a last-ditch effort, Ben started googling "expat adoptions" and found Small World Adoption, which specializes in helping US citizens overseas to adopt. Within a week, we had met with the director, were accepted into the Liberia program, and had signed the contract! The door had been flung wide open, and adoption was a go!
During the process of paperwork and the routine of waiting, Jenae felt led to pray for a son by her 30th birthday in the summer of 2020. As that day came and passed with no word of a referral, there was a twinge of disappointment but a renewed trust that God was working for our good and His glory. Finally, on February 9, 2021, we received a referral for our little blessing! As we looked over his paperwork, we realized with utter amazement that he had been brought to the orphanage on July 10, 2020 - Jenae's exact birthday. God hears and answers prayer!
We are now in the final waiting period as the Liberian government reviews and processes our paperwork. If all goes well, we hope to pick up our son within the next few months. It's been a rocky journey (as all adoptive families can relate to), but God has led us each step of the way. We know His timing is perfect, and we are continually learning how to trust Him more.
