Adoption has been on our hearts and in our prayers for many years, even before we were married. One of our dearest friends, who introduced us to each other, was adopted. We were always very moved by her story, and we felt led to adopt. In 2015, we started researching adoption more in depth. We had a passion for international adoption, but we thought it was beyond what we could handle. We met with local families who had adopted, spoke with over thirty adoptive families in Kentucky, researched adoption agencies, and did a tremendous amount of praying. Through all of this, China kept coming to the forefront. We continued to pray, and we both knew we had to say yes, despite the hurdles. We didn’t have the answers for how it was all going to work out, but we were trusting and hopeful that God would make a way. After we said yes, things started falling into place. We laid our adoption at God’s feet and trusted Him to meet every provision. He exceeded our expectations in every way. God guided us through every part of paperwork and preparation. He also put just the right people and resources in our paths in order for us to grow. He made a way financially through fundraising and a matching grant with Lifesong. In November 2016, we had the privilege and honor of adopting our son, Elijah Cameron Croucher, from Zhumadian, China. He was two years old. He has been our greatest blessing, and we are so thankful to God for allowing us to be Elijah’s parents. God not only got us to Elijah, but he continues to carry us through each step of parenthood. God’s got us, and in turn, we have Elijah.
Before we even traveled to China to adopt Elijah, God had been working on our hearts to adopt again. A day hasn’t passed that we haven’t prayed it. Even during the most difficult days of parenting, we both have felt God’s call to return to China to adopt again. For the last 2 ½ years, we have been trying to prepare our hearts, home, family, and finances. We realized that we have to trust God with every step, and say yes once again! That’s not to say we have no fears. They are even bigger this time around, but we also have a greater faith. While raising our son has been our greatest joy, it has also brought us to our knees at God’s feet time and time again. Adoption and parenting are hard, and they are supposed to be. The hard makes us better parents, better people, and better children of God because we learn to depend on Him like never before. We couldn’t have gotten to where we are as parents or people, without God’s grace every step of the way. Our daily prayer is to be better parents than we were the day before. We also both grew up as only children, and we want Elijah to have the blessing of a sibling. He is so excited about becoming a big brother and can’t wait to have a sibling from his birth country to grow up with.
We are trusting God to guide us through every step as we grow our family, despite the storms that will come. Like the Charles H. Spurgeon quote, “I have learned to kiss the waves that throw me up against the Rock of Ages.” We know God has got us once again.
Our dossier was completed and logged in at the CCCWA in China on July 4, 2019. The next step in our adoption process will be being matched with our son or daughter! This could happen anytime! Once we are matched, the timeline for our travel to China will move quickly.
We are so thankful to have been awarded a $3,500 matching grant from Orphan Care Alliance Adoption Fund, administered by Lifesong for Orphans. A matching grant means that for every dollar we raise up to $3,500, they will match it dollar for dollar. Even $5 or $10 donations become $10 and $20. All donations through Lifesong are tax deductible. If adoption is something that resonates with you and you would like to help financially, we would be forever grateful.
STRIPE charges an online processing fee (2.2% +.30 USD per transaction). Your donations will be decreased by this amount. You may also send a check payable to “Lifesong for Orphans”. In the memo line please write “Croucher 08615”, to ensure it is credited to our account. Please mail to Lifesong for Orphans, PO Box 40, Gridley, IL 61744.
