Coming Home – A Circle of Adoption

Abigail McKinley
Abigail McKinley NORTH AUGUSTA, South Carolina

From Joseph:

I have known I was adopted for as long as I can remember.  If I ever had thoughts about abandonment or whether I was loved, the gap was quickly filled with reminders that God had a plan for me and my adoptive family was who He wanted me with.  There is evidence of God's love and providence all around me.  Because of my journey it’s always been my desire to share the same love I received with my own child one day.  My wife, Abigail and I were quickly blessed with four biological children.  Abigail is tender and strong and loves our four children well, yet both of our hearts still long to welcome an adopted child into our family.  Abigail constantly counts the children’s heads and tells me she feels one is missing, and I feel the same way.  We know that God can do abundantly more than we ask or think, and we are acting on the desire God has given us and learning to trust His timing and provision. We have a home full of love, support, and awesome siblings for our new child. We hope to provide what God provided for me thirty-three years ago, a family.  Thank you for considering us.

From Abigail:

Adoption is a story that begins with the choice of a Mother. My husband’s first Mother chose to bring her child into the world. My marriage and the four children I hold in my arms daily exist because of her choice to love him enough to give him life.  She also chose to give her child something she knew he needed and she couldn’t provide, a family. At the same time Joseph’s first Mother was deciding to give him a different family, his second Mother and Father were waiting with full hearts and empty arms. This was a part of a beautiful plan of redemption. This was a story of lost and then found. This was a story God had woven together before he had even knit Joseph in his mother’s womb.

I love the birth mother and am thankful that we can offer her a place of love to entrust her child to.  I want to be used by God and to be a part of His plan for this masterpiece, my little adoptive girl.  I do not know what to expect with the unknowns ahead with my biological children as well as my new baby, but I do know that God will be there in every moment. I know that God cares for the orphan. I know that God calls helpless orphans who have no hope and are lost His beloved sons and daughters through the blood of Jesus, His Son.  He rescued me when I was lost and calls me daughter.   His great love for me gives me the desire to move and love my new baby girl.  I know God’s heart is to redeem and I want to be a piece of His redemption plan in this Mother and child’s lives.

The story that I have seen God work in my husband’s life is more than enough testimony that God cares, goes before, provides, and brings home those who are in need. Our verse for our daughter-to-be is this.

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
