Colin and Driselle’s Adoption Story

Driselle Sullivan
Driselle Sullivan Palmetto Bay, Florida

Colin and I met while attending a Young Adults Group in our Catholic Church. I had seen him a few times before we were officially introduced and I thought it was funny that he would only talk to me in a group setting. He later admitted that he was very shy and needed the help of our mutual friend to introduce us. We quickly bonded over our faith and shared love of music. After a few months of friendship, we began to date.

One of my most cherished memories was one day early on, wanting to speak to Colin by phone, he simply told me, “I’d rather go over and talk to you in person.” And he did just that… needless to say, we were inseparable ever since.

When we started to prepare for marriage, I shared with Colin how at 12 years old I visited a children’s home with school and fell in love with the idea of adoption. I felt God had written it in my heart to adopt and it was important he was open to adoption as well. Colin, wanting a big family, and knowing friends/family members who were adopted, was also open to adoption!

As many of our friends and family know, we began our journey to parenthood trying to conceive naturally and as time went by with no pregnancy, we decided to seek some answers. After many doctors appointments, some helpful, some not, we realized God was granting us the opportunity to begin our adoption journey sooner than we had ever anticipated. We didn’t believe we would be financially able to adopt so early on in our marriage, but once we decided yet again, to trust in God, he led the way and here we are! Because so many things have to be prepared ahead of time, we decided in lieu of a baby shower, we would create a fundraiser for our child(ren)’s needs.

Thank you for the love, support, and prayers throughout our journey to becoming parents!
