We are Rex and Melissa Colfack, 22 years ago when we married we had no idea what God had planned for our lives. Soon after we married we started to build our family . 2 boys and 1 girl later we felt our family was complete. However we later realized that God had other plans for us by placing adoption in our hearts. In 2015 we brought home our now 8 year old daughter with down syndrome. God soon placed another little girl with down syndrome in our hearts and took us back to China in 2017 to bring our now 9 year old daughter home.
Our first trip to China made a huge impact on our hearts that could not be forgotten. While we were there to bring our daughter home we had the opportunity to visit the orphanage As anyone who has ever visited an orphanage would know and understand this was the hardest part of our trip for all of us. During that visit we met many children, many children that tried so hard to impress us in an effort to get us to take them too. Heartbreaking, but there was one little boy in particular that left an impact on our hearts. We went home talking about him to everyone assuming he had a family on the way. We could not get him out of our minds, but had no idea how to find out more about him. After returning home from our second adoption we still could not get him out of our minds. So we reached out to our agency to see if we could find anything out about this boy we can’t stop thinking about. Soon we were holding his file and seeing new pictures of him. I remember the excitement we had as we opened the email, but at the same time hit with such sadness because that meant this sweet boy has spent another 3+ years in an orphanage. It was heartbreaking when we read through his file to find out that for the last several years he has watched his friends being adopted and regularly asks his caretakers “when will I be adopted?”.
No child should ever feel unworthy. So while we were overjoyed to find his information we were also so very heartbroken for him. We know we can’t save them all, but at the same time we know if God calls us, we will say yes! We struggle to believe that any sacrifice of our comforts should outweigh the desperate needs of this sweet boy. I admit we were scared to do it again so many “what if’s”. Our home may not be big, but we have plenty of room in our hearts. Searching for our purpose we continue searching for Gods will for us and we believe God is calling us to this young man who doesn’t have much time before he ages out and one that many have overlooked, why? Because he is a boy, he is older and he has a diagnosis of so many unknowns. We believe that God had placed him in our hearts for a reason and has given us the courage to go back. We are praying for what may appear to be the impossible, but it is in those prayers that we see the face of Christ. Our God has provided for us over and over again, and we believe he will again. Our hearts desire is for God to be glorified through our family’s story of the redemptive beauty of adoption. It’s a story of changed desires. It’s a story of changed plans. It’s a story of a changed family.
Adoption is a huge leap of faith and we cannot wait to see what God has in store for our family. Not only are we excited to get our son home, but we are so excited to get to share the great things He has done with the world! Maybe God is calling YOU to be a part of our journey. Apart from your continued support through prayer, we also ask that you please consider supporting us financially in this journey. The costs of the home study, agency fees, international fees, and orphanage donation are a significant challenge. In total, we estimate that the cost will be approximately $35,000- $40,000. Please prayerfully consider financially supporting our journey it will be a life-saving investment with an eternal return. We have been blessed by the Tim Tebow Foundation who has generously awarded us a $3000 matching grant, administered by Lifesong for Orphans to help us with our adoption expenses. This means that your gift will be matched (and tax deductible) when you give to our adoption! Any gift that exceeds the matching grant will continue to be given to our adoption fund. We know that God brought us to this and that he will guide us in finding a way to manage the associated costs, but we know that we cannot do it alone. We would be so grateful for any contribution, large or small, that you might feel led to make to our adoption.
Please continue to pray for our family, the adoption process, our new son, and changes to our family.
