Chosen-A Bulgarian Sibling Adoption

Adam Schnabel Medford, Wisconsin

The first weekend in March of 2012, we had our first date.  And during one of our conversations the topic of children came up.  We didn’t know then that the Holy Spirit had imprinted Adoption on our hearts. But we both had made the comment, that even if we would have biological children, we wanted to adopt children.

6 years later, we brought home our daughter from Bulgaria, after having difficulties getting pregnant.  Our daughter’s adoption was not the picture perfect adoption journey, but one with hurdles, struggles, and heart break.

2 years later, our son’s profile was presented to us.  We said yes again to adoption.  This time through foster in Wisconsin.

At this point, I, the Husband, had no desire to adopt, as I felt our family was complete.  But one day during our priest’s prayers of petition, the Holy Spirit touched me in way that opened my heart yet again to the thought of adoption.  After speaking with our priest after mass, I new truly God had presented a path for our family.

That evening, my Wife showed me a picture of a brother and sister that were available to be adopted with our previous agency that we used with our daughter’s adoption.  She too had felt that God was calling us to these children.

My wife had shared that they were looking for a particular family for these children, and that several families had already been denied due to the circumstances of one of the children.  She was reluctant to email, but I had told her to investigate the Idea.

Before we knew it, we were filling out adoption paperwork and entering the journey of our third adoption.

God speaking through the Holy Spirit, and that quiet day in church led us here.  It is God’s plan for us, to adopt these two, brother and sister, and provide them a loving and nurturing home.
