Chelsea and Parker Day Family Adoption

Hello friends and family!

Adoption has always been something on our radar and is something we discussed even while we were dating. I think in our minds we always assumed that foster care is the route we would take- for so many reasons. When we started exploring options for some reason we just never had a peace about being foster parents at this point in our lives. We definitely felt this was something we would just pursue when the girls were older. So we thought that was the answer- later. However for some reason the issue of adoption just kept coming up and we couldn’t seem to go a day without discussing it. It wasn’t that we hadn’t considered private adoption or that it was something we didn’t want to do. For so many reasons it just didn’t seem feasible. The time, resources, and finances just seemed like impossible obstacles. Yet somehow I found myself on the internet every night googling adoption agencies. Somehow we were still longing for the child that wasn’t yet ours but we felt in our hearts already. So we started praying and making phone calls and asking questions. For reasons we still don’t understand this is something we feel strongly that The Lord wants us to pursue. And while it still seems impossible and honestly often times discouraging we know that if The Lord wills it then there is no obstacle too big. We know God has a heart for adoption and we are so humbled and blessed that He has chosen us to be a vessel in this way!

We covet your prayers as we continue on this journey! We know it may be long and there may be heartbreak involved at times but we also know that we have a faithful and loving father who will go with us and that if we seek to do His will it will all work out according to His glory!

Love,

Common misconceptions about private adoption

August 4, 2019

Hello!

It’s been awhile and as we’re preparing to hit the fundraising road again I wanted to give a little insight to a common question!

When we think adoption usually you picture a baby being taken from it’s mother’s arms and given to a completely stranger, never to be heard from again. Years ago this was true! Honestly when we first started the process the idea of an open adoption ( which is most commonly the case these days ) was terrifying! We had so much anxiety about having contact with birth parents. We still get this question often, “doesn’t having a relationship with the birth parents make you nervous?”. It did, bit we can honestly say after all the education we received we are not only comfortable with the idea but absolutely, 100% think this is how adoption should be in most cases!

1) There are legal safe guards put in place that are specifically tailored to each situation. The birth mom can never just show up at your door and in most cases will not even know your location.

2) What an awesome opportunity to minister to someone with whom you have such a common thread! To show Christ’s love not only to an adopted baby but also to the “family” we gain. We can be an amazing testimony in this way.

If you ever have any questions about how we processed all this and how deeply we feel like having a birth mom relationship is important please feel free to reach out and we would love to chat! As part of our profile book we got to write a letter to the prospective birth parents and I wanted to share.

Letter below:

Dear birth parent,

First of all may we say thank you for even considering blessing us with the immesurable gift that is your baby. Having been parents three times over ourselves we can’t even begin to imagine the strength it takes to be in your position. We want you to know that we are praying with you and for you as you go through this process. We want you to know we are here for you as well.

This is new for us and we aren’t going to pretend that we know exaclty how to go about this relationship. We only know that with The Lord’s help and with Your consent we’d love to be parents a child that we have prayed for and longed for before we even had any biological children of our own. Knowing that may be your child is both exciting and humbling. We strongly believe that we cannot love your child without loving the person that created and birthed him/her. However that may look.

We are honored and beyond blessed to have been able to pursue our dream of adopting and we look forward to all this journey holds for us and for you as well!

We love you and we are praying for you,

Chelsea and Parker

Baby after a baby!

May 30, 2019

Hello all!

We have been silent awhile. After learning I was pregnant last summer we gave birth to a beautiful baby boy in March! We often got(get) the question, ” Will you still adopt?”. The answer is “absolutely!”. In no way has having another baby ever altered how we feel about adopting!

We were originally told that we would be put on a hold until Uriah was 6 months old. We were a little discouraged, we both come from twin families and found the idea of 2 babes close in age exciting( exhausting, yes ) but exciting! Fast forward..

In early May we were asked if we would consider coming off our hold early. They have had a huge influx of birth moms and a shortage of families. Of course we said yes! We are confident The Lord will give us a baby in His timing regardless of circumstances.

So we are back to the task of raising the training funds! To be 100% transparent we need to raise 8500.00 and this is due at the time of placement. While this seems like a large number, it is so much smaller that what we started with and God has been faithful to help us accomplish what we thought was impossible!

We know He will guide us through the rest of this process and He will get all the glory!

We ask that you continue to pray with us and consider giving if you can!

Love you all!

Actively Waiting

November 29, 2017

Hello everyone!

We have been so blown away by all the prayers and support we have received over the past several months! So first off- THANK YOU!

We wanted to give everyone a little update. So, where are we now? The homestudy is complete, the grant applications have been sent in. We are literally just waiting ( and brainstorming a few fundraisers on the side). Which just means we are eligible to be matched with a birth mom/parents at any time. The most common question we get ( and the first one we asked ourselves ) is, “how long typically does a match take?”. The only answer we can give is, ” there’s no way to really tell”. Our case worker was very optimistic in that we are very “open”. Meaning when they gave us a stack of papers asking what scenarios we could work with as far as a match goes there were very few things we marked on our list. And yes you can be VERY specific about what kind of baby you want apparently!

So the easy answer is that we are just waiting. If we are being brutally honest it has been harder than we expected. I don’t think we expected to feel the discouragement and defeat; or to question what we were even thinking when we decided this was a good idea. It is exhausting mentally and emmotionally. However we have been brought to our knees more frequently, we have prayed harder, and we have grown. Isn’t it so typical of The Gospel? Not only can His plan find a way for christians to adopt and show God’s glory through grace but at the same time He can use the process of adoption to sanctify His children. He has been so good to us and we are learning to trust and find peace in the waiting a little more each day.

Thank you all so much for your prayers! We love you all dearly.
