Right before we started dating, God opened our eyes through the Word to see God’s heart to care for the orphan. Miranda was licensed as a foster parent while single, then after marriage we became foster parents a couple of years after our daughter was born, to provide respite care to foster families. During that time, a stirring began in our heart for older children domestically, who had been overlooked. We had our son Jacob in 2017, still not knowing when or how God would call us to continue to care for the orphan.
Then last year, some friends from church began the process to adopt a little boy in China who just so happened to have a best buddy in need of a forever family. God lined up some pretty amazing circumstances to call us to this best buddy who the agency listed under the name “Chase.” He had actually been previously matched with a family, who made it all the way to China to get him, but told him they were unable to move forward with adopting him once there. His already fractured heart was completely crushed and so was ours upon hearing this. We began praying, reading through his file, reading the Word, talking with doctors and family/friends who had been down this road, and praying some more…and inevitably decided to move forward with adopting Chase as we without a doubt believe God is calling us to “Chase after him!”
He is 11-years old with Cerebral Palsy that impacts all 4 limbs and his speech. As a speech-language pathologist who worked with children for 15 years, Miranda has always felt a call to special needs and we feel like this child was made perfectly and perfectly for our family. Our 6-year old daughter could not be more excited about having a big brother and talks about Chase as though he is already here with us, and our 2-year old son loves to blow kisses at his picture and sing about him! We know that God will equip us for the challenges that will definitely come, and we anticipate a day when we won’t even know what life was like without him!
Thank you for taking the time to read our story! Your prayers are essential as we prepare now for this adoption and in the days, weeks, and months following! We’re specifically asking that God continues to bond our hearts to this precious child in a supernatural way, provides someone in China to begin teaching him English NOW, and that we meet our fundraising goal by Chase’s 12thbirthday on September 1st!! Your investment in our family whether by words of encouragement, prayers, and/or monetarily has been so life-giving to us throughout this process. We have felt love in so many different ways, and as Chase said when he found out we were adopting him, we are “overwhelmingly excited” that YOU are a part of his homecoming journey!
