My name is Chase Buie and my wife, Jill Buie, and I are in the process of adopting our first child.
Jill has always been lead towards adopting. I remember it being one of the first conversations we had when we realized our relationship was getting serious. She had to know I was on board to adopt in our family one day. And I of course was! We knew we would adopt at some point but figured it would be to “add” to our family, not to “start” our family. We started out by trying to adopt through our state DHS. We went through all the training and necessary paperwork. We were wanting to adopt a new born to 4 year old child. We were told that age group was difficult to adopt through the DHS system but were still willing to try. After 2 years we were never successfully paired. We then decided to go the private agency route.
The most daunting thing about private adoption is honestly the expense of it. Our agency, ABBA Adoption, is located in Benton, AR and is ran by Kandi Cox. Their fees alone are $27,000.00. That covers all their fees and lawyer expenses. Another huge portion we will be responsible for are the birth mother’s necessary expenses after being paired. We have no concrete way of knowing a specific amount we will owe. ABBA has told us that the typical range is $500-$2000 per month depending on the mother’s situation. This money will cover things like housing, groceries, medicines, vitamins, doctor’s visits, insurance, and so forth. This money is paid to ABBA by us and then ABBA pays the mother’s expenses directly. We are estimating the total cost of the adoption to be up to $50,000. While we live a comfortable life and are smart with our finances, we simply just don’t have that amount just available to use. We have held numerous fund raisers already and have been blessed by donations from our family and friends. In total we have raised right at $20,000 in the past year for our adoption fund. Those funds are in a checking account opened for the sole purpose of adoption funds. We estimate we still need around $30,000 to cover all expenses. We are in it for the long haul and are an official open home as of 5.24.21. We have paid $9,000 of our expenses so far with the next installment due upon being paired. The birth mother fees will also be due upon being paired and our adoption plan being agreed upon. The third installment is due when the adoption is finalized.
My wife and I are so eager to become parents and know we have a home full of love to give our child. We pray for the birth mother and the child daily without even knowing who or where they are. Our faith in God has taken us this far and know that He will bless us with the child He has for us in His time. My wife and I have worked hard and been smart with our expenses to help pay for this adoption and pride ourselves in keeping it that way. Money and expenses are still a huge hurdle in the process and anything you can bless us with will go so far in helping. It will also be such a help no matter the amount you can give. We so very much appreciate your time and consideration to help us through our adoption story, GOD BLESS!
