Carswell Adoption Journey

Lara & Robert Carswell Newnan, Georgia

Our HOPE is in the LORD!

We are excited to share that we are on the journey to adopting a child though domestic infant adoption – and that our precious baby boy "Jack" was born on June 1, 2021, at 36 weeks.

As part of our adoption process, we are stepping outside our comfort zone to both share our testimony of how God placed this on our hearts and to ask for your prayers and financial support.

Adoption has always just felt right to us, but it is also scary. There are so many unknowns and so much outside our control – and it is just so expensive. It’s long been on our hearts and God has used little things to nudge us, such as in 2019 when Leland asked for a baby brother and then told us about how many orphans there are in the world – “we could adopt one” he said! A seed was planted and recently we felt God say “NOW” loud and clear.

So here we are, asking you humbly for your prayers and your support. The estimated cost for the adoption is $46,000. These costs go to pay for our home study, post-placement evaluations, travel, adoption agency fees, medical expenses, and legal fees.

We have been awarded a $6500 matching grant from RACE for Orphans Adoption Fund, administered by Lifesong for Orphans. This means all donations will be matched by the fund and that all donations are tax deductible.

This $6500 matching grant will help pull us across the “finish line” of our adoption with the support going primarily to our legal fees ($3000+), our monthly post-adoption home study visits ($250 / months for approx. 6 months = $1500) and our travel expenses. Because Jack has been in the NICU we will have to stay in Florida for nearly a month rather than 10-14 days which is a significant increase in our budgeted travel expenses.

STRIPE charges an online processing fee (2.2% +.30 USD per transaction). Your donations will be decreased by this amount. You may also send a check payable to “Lifesong for Orphans”. In the memo line please write “Carswell 09507”, to ensure it is credited to our account. Please mail to Lifesong for Orphans, PO Box 9, Gridley, IL 61744.

Lifesong has been blessed with partners who underwrite all U.S. administrative and fundraising costs (TMG Foundation and other partners). That means 100% of your donation will go directly to the adoption.

  • In following IRS guidelines, your donation is to Lifesong for Orphans. This organization retains full discretion over its use, but intends to honor the donor’s suggested use.
  • Lifesong is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. Individual donations of $50 or more and yearly donations totaling $250 or more will receive a tax-deductible receipt. Receipts for donations under $50 will gladly be sent upon request.
