Shortly after the birth of our second child God planted a seed in our hearts to adopt. We had a yearning to have more children but were not able to act on this desire. During this time God brought to our attention the need for families to adopt internationally. We would do some research from time to time but, sadly, we let fear overwhelm us and we shut the door on that calling over and over again.
Early in 2016 God tugged at our hearts again. This time it was different. There was a sense of urgency and this time we didn’t let fear win. In February of 2016 we began the long, tedious process and paperchase of international adoption that led us to our daughter, Gigi. God showed us how to stretch our funds as well as blessed us with fundraising and grants to complete her adoption. She is truly a joy and blesses us in ways that we never could have imagined.
As we think about our first adoption, we can say with certainty that even though God was at work during the entire process, we started it and moved through it with selfish ambitions: WE wanted a daughter. However, he worked through our faults and weaknesses and used our experience with Gigi’s adoption to teach us that this is not about US. It is about HIM.
Prior to Gigi’s adoption we had discussed the possibility of returning to China in a few years to adopt another child. However, immediately after Gigi’s adoption we shut the door on that ourselves. We simply could not imagine going through the long paperwork process or the emotional journey again. We couldn’t begin to contemplate how we would fund even a portion of a second international adoption.
God made it clear that He was not done with us yet. Once again we felt a yearning and we prayed for clarity. As the months went on, God lifted the fog and began to direct our path to China again. He reminded us we are to be His hands and feet and how He wants us to share His love with another child who needs us. God’s love is calling us to act again and to give the hope that a family can give an orphan by simply offering him our love. Even though our house may feel too small, at times our ages feel too great, and our finances feel too meager, THIS is God’s calling for us and we are to obey. It may not be easy but we find rest in that He has a reason and a plan. This is for His glory.
In February of 2018, in obedience and with complete peace of mind, we signed another contract with our agency, finalized our home study, and began preparing our dossier to be sent to China. Before, we’d even been home for a year and before our dossier was sent to China, we received word from our agency that they had a file for us to review. The file of a little boy from Gigi’s same orphanage-something we’d wanted so badly but were too afraid to ask for. That day God revealed the face of our son, Dean Howard Shenlin Carosone to us. We locked his file on Gigi’s one year adoption anniversary.
We are set to travel to China in October to meet and bring our sweet Howie home. We cannot wait to shower him with the love he deserves. It is our prayer that the work of God will be displayed in a mighty way in his life.
International adoptions expenses range between $25,000-35,000. We have funded over a third of this adoption ourselves and are now humbling ourselves and asking for assistance. We know there are many people who may not be able to adopt a child themselves but understand God's desire for all orphans to be loved, cared for, and adopted into Christian families. We are asking you to support us with your prayers and to consider supporting us with a financial gift if able. We have been awarded and are so grateful for a $3500 matching grant from the Chosen & Dearly Loved Adoption Fund which is administerd by Lifesong for Orphans. Donations up to the award amount of $3500 will be matched by Chosen & Dearly Loved and will help us to bring Howie home to his Forever Family.
