Buckley Family Adoption Journey

Amberly Buckley FAIRHOPE, Alabama

Dear Family and Friends,

We are incredibly excited to share that we are officially matched with our precious Ya-Lin! She is a beautiful 13-year-old girl from Taiwan, and we are thrilled that we get to be her FOREVER family.

Our adoption journey began over 6 years ago, when we started the process of adoption of our youngest daughter, Anna. She is from China, and in the past year she has consistently expressed her desire to have a sister that “looks like me.” When we were in China, we developed a deep love and heart for the older orphans and how every child deserves the love and security of a forever family. Our older girls, Claire and Hailey, also began to feel a strong tugging towards adoption again, and they consistently approached the subject with us because the Lord was working in our family before me and Marshall were even aware. As we realized the Lord was working in the hearts of our children and spurring our family towards adoption again, we began to pray about how our family should move forward and what that might look like us.

Fast forward 7 months, and we have been officially matched with our precious girl! The “busywork” that is part of the adoption process is behind us, and we are now moving closer to having her HOME! We are preparing her room, learning some Mandarin and how to make authentic Taiwanese meals and doing all things possible to help raise the money we need to move mountains in order to cross an ocean to our girl all the way in Taiwan!

So, with all of that exciting news, we are also writing to humbly ask that you pray for us and our sweet girl as we are approaching the final steps that will allow us to have her in our arms. There will be some hard days ahead of us as we transition into a family of 6, and as our girl learns to bond with us and trust us, as well as her precious heart grieving the loss of all things familiar.

Our hearts and our home are open and ready for our sweet girl to be here, but the financial requirements to actually have her here prove to be one of the biggest challenges all adoptive families face. The estimated total cost (paperwork, government fees (US and Taiwan), fingerprints, home study and travel of our adoption process is ~$45,000!  Our church family at Mars Hill Church has partnered with Lifesong for Orphans and has committed a $5,000 Matching Grant towards our adoption expenses! THIS IS HUGE, Y’ALL! This means that for every dollar donated up to the $5,000 will be matched dollar for dollar… that’s $10,000!! Any amount over the $5,000 will also go towards our adoption expenses.  We humbly ask if you would consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us cover the remaining $25,000 in adoption expense’s we still have before us in order to bring our girl home. Our goal date is September 6th, 2019, but Lifesong will accept donations on our behalf anytime from now until our adoption is final.

Not everyone is called to adopt. Some are called to pray, some to give financially, some to go on mission trips, and some to adopt. We truly thank you for your support and covet your prayers.

Thank you,

Marshall, Amberly, Claire, Hailey and Anna Buckley (and soon to be Ya-Lin)
