I’m Kate C. In 2009, I adopted my daughter, Lexi, from Russia. She was 6 1/2 years old. Lexi is an amazing daughter–loving, tender-hearted, brave and loyal–who gladdens my heart each and every day.
I began to feel that our family wasn’t finished growing. We have hosted nine orphans from three different countries, and loved them fiercely, but none of them are available for adoption. Both Lexi and I feel that we need a little sister who will never have to leave.
I looked on different “waiting child” sites for countries that allow singles to adopt. One little girl caught at my heart, again and again. She is nine years old. She has dimples that match Lexi’s. And, she has a long list of medical dianognes that, honestly, were intimidating to me. But, over time, with much prayer and many conversations, I have become convinced that we can meet her needs. We just need help getting her home!
Her name in Chinese means “Joyful Promise” or “Promise to Flourish”. So, while we wait for her to be ours, we’re calling her “Promise” online. We promise to do all we can to bring her home. We can’t wait to see what promise she has!
I am an older, tired, mom who lives very simply. I am not sure why God has called me to adopt this little girl. Surely there is someone with more energy, more resources, more time that could be her mom. What I do have is a willing heart. Maybe that is why?
When I adopted Lexi, I was led to the story of Moses and read it with new eyes. God chose Pharaoh’s daughter, a single woman, to adopt Moses. While my adoption of Promise is unlikely to change the fate of world, it can change the world for one little girl.
Thank you. Thank you for hearing and sharing our story. It is a very humbling position to be put in, to need to rely on others so completely. Thank you for holding us in your prayers. Blessings and joy!
