In 2001, as we sat in an orphanage in Russia, the Lord began to prompt us to adopt, yet it took a decade for that seed to actually produce fruit. At the beginning of 2011, we officially began the process of adopting a child from Honduras. Over the five years that followed our family prayed and discussed what God was doing as we waited for Honduras to match us with a child. We believed that the Lord was leading us to be open to adopting a sibling group, and an older child. In May of this year, we finally received a referral of two children from Honduras. A boy (age 8) and his younger sister (age 5), who had faced a difficult journey before being placed in a children’s home three years ago. Alicia and I traveled to Honduras in July to meet the children and move the process of adoption forward. We changed the children’s names to Alia, which means “from heaven” as a reminder that these children and our two biological daughters are gifts from the Lord. And Ashton, which means “strong protector” since he has been a great big brother to Alia and in many ways has been her strong protector. His name is also a reminder that the Lord is our strong protector. The cost of the adoption is already close to $30,000, and we expect the costs of finalizing the adoption of two children to be another $20,000 to $22,000. Please pray for us on this adoption journey, and if you are able to help with the cost of bring Ashton and Alia home, we would greatly appreciate it. We have received a $3000 matching grant from Lifesong for Orphans, so as you give through thsi mySTORY account, the first $3000 given will actually become $6000 toward our adoption. Thank you for your prayers and support
