After Robbie and I were married, we were excited to begin our family. But with every passing month, it became clear that our desires were not going to be met in the time or necessarily the manner in which we thought. But wasn’t out desire for parenthood a biblical one?
In our search for answers, we also started searching for alternatives. Because of personal convictions, we decided to not pursue extensive fertility testing and treatments. I believe it was God’s grace and divine work as we took our time beginning the adoption process. The Lord had a purpose for us in this time; we needed to learn something.
Adoption is not plan B. As part of our decision-making process, we read the book “Adopted for Life” by Russell Moore, which really helped us reorient our thinking about adoption. Our own adoption as sons and daughters in God’s family was never plan B. During the months of waiting, God was doing a work in both of our hearts and teaching us His heart for adoption. We chose to adopt internationally because we wanted to be part of reaching the nations with the gospel. We chose America World Adoption Agency because they are a faith-based organization. I don’t feel like we really chose India – everything else seemed to bring us to it. Our story isn’t just about us. Our story is going to weave in with the story of a little boy in India who needs rescuing. And we cannot wait to see how it all unfolds.
