Many people have asked us why we decided to adopt. We have always felt that some one was missing from our family and have entertained the idea of international adoption for many years.
In October 2018, we decided together to begin researching adoption agencies. We went to informational meetings, emailed, called 3 different agencies and in November 2018, we were ultimately directed to our current agency.
We could write a book on how many different things pointed us to take this specific adoption journey. Without a doubt in our minds, we know God has been guiding our decisions and made it clear to us that we were heading in the right direction.
On November 14, 2018, we submitted our adoption application which began an enormous amount of paperwork, fees, multiple background checks, medical exams, psychological testing, a homestudy, more paperwork, more background checks, more fees, financial statements, reference letters, notaries, more applications, interviews, multiple certified copies, more interviews, more background checks, etc.
In December 2018, we were in the middle of our homestudy process when we received an email from our agency. In the email, there was a picture of a precious baby boy who had had a pretty rough beginning to his short life, and he needed a special family to adopt him. As soon as we saw him, we knew in our hearts that he, Baby J, was our son.
Finally in April 2019, we received the phone call that we had been officially matched with our son!!!! Praise the Lord!!!!!
As Amanda was praying about whether or not to fundraise and share our story, she came across this verse in the Bible, John 14:18. Jesus was talking to his disciples about leaving them and sending the Holy Spirit to help them. He said, “I won’t leave you as orphans. I will come to you”.
We feel that God was showing us just how much he cares for Baby J. He isn’t leaving him an orphan, but he is using you & me to bring him home to his forever family, his community family!!
We still have some financial hurdles to cross before we have our sweet Baby J home, but with God’s help & in God’s timing, it will happen.
We have been awarded a $3,000 MATCHING GRANT from the Tim Tebow Foundation to be administered by Lifesong for Orphans.
