We thought our little family of five was complete but God had bigger plans. In July of 2017, after an event at our church, Andy saw an adopted daughter run to her dad joyfully yelling ‘Daddy!!!’ and God dropped a bomb in his heart. That night as we were driving home, Andy told Jennifer what happened and she said “actually I’ve been thinking about adoption for the past two months!” We started praying and knew we had to move forward with the calling God had put in our hearts. We’ve been chasing that calling since, and are eager to take the steps to bring our son home. If God can make room for us in His family, we can make room for a child in need in OUR family.
In praying about where we would adopt, God put China on both our hearts. Since China has relaxed its one child policy, almost all healthy children are adopted domestically within China. Now the majority of the over 400,000 children in orphanages have some sort of special need and are in need of a loving family. We specifically feel called to adopt a deaf boy, between the age of 2-5.
Because we feel called to adopt an older child, he has already been born and is most likely in an orphanage. Disabled children are usually abandoned as infants so he may have spent his whole life in an orphanage. Pray for our son to have strength through whatever situation has led to him being in an orphanage. Pray for his caretakers and that he will have his needs met on a daily basis.
So many of you have asked how you can help. We feel, when it comes to financial contributions, we do like to be transparent about exactly where those dollars go!
So, here is where our family is at!
We have paid initial fees, our first two agency fees, fees to authenticate our dossier(documents to China so they know our family), and our i800A(a US document that approves us to adopt a child internationally). In the next month, we will need to pay for shipment of our dossier($1400), and our next agency fee($3500). After that we have a remaining $20k to raise. We are so grateful that we have been given a $5000 matching grant from The Bridge Church! This means that any amount that is donated through this site is doubled! So if you donate $1, you’re really donating $2! On top of that it is tax deductible! We are overwhelmed with gratitude that we were chosen to receive this grant! More than anything, we covet your prayers! Prayers for this to move quickly, and smoothly, for our son and for us as we are all in a season of waiting!
