Matt and I have four children, and even after the fourth was born we never thought we were finished having children. Every other mom kept telling me “you will know” and I just couldn’t figure out what God wanted for us. Adoption was never on my heart, and even though Matt loved the idea of adoption - he never pressed me on it.
Then one day I read an article about orphanages in Bulgaria that brought me to sobbing tears. I slid out of the kitchen table chair, where I was sitting with my laptop, straight onto the floor. I wept for those boys in that orphanage and how they longed for a family. I wept for the condition they were in. I heard the Lord say in a crystal clear word “this is what I have for you.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, but it was so powerful I knew it was Him.
Over the next several days I tried to process my feelings, and while the immediate emotions of that afternoon eased, the thoughts never went away. Over the next six months, everywhere I looked were adoption messages. Every devotion I read, story on facebook, scripture I was studying… everything pointed me to being obedient through adoption.
When I talked to Matt it was exactly what I expected, he was ready, to move forward. We decided to talk to friends that had been through adoption, we listened to podcasts and read articles trying to take in as much information as possible. I talked to another mom who had adopted an older child, which is what we decided we wanted for our family. She led us to her adoption agency, America World. We didn’t really have a specific country in mind – but when I first clicked on the link my friend sent me the website opened up and in large letters on the front page were “Now accepting applications for adoptions in Haiti.” Again, the sky opened for me and an emotion was pressed on our hearts to pursue a boy from the country of Haiti. And here we are waiting. Our application was accepted with America World in March 2017, our home study complete that June, and our dossier was formally accepted into IBESR in November 2017. We are currently waiting on a referral for a boy aged 4-7.
We have been saving money since we first got accepted into the program. No one has $40,000 laying around to adopt a child, but we are positive this is what we're supposed to be doing. When we hit the one year mark of waiting last November I reached out to Lifesong for Orphans and applied for a matching grant and got it! We are blessed to be partnering with them to raise the remainder of our finances.
We have been asked by many people how they can help bring our boy home. Well, here it is... many people are not called to adopt a child but we're all called to care for orphans. You can give directly to Lifesong for Orphans, with our name and account in the memo line, Mooney #8270, and your donation will 100% help fund our adoption. All donations $50 and over will automatically receive a tax deductible letter. If you are willing and want to have a part in completing our family, mail a check for any amount to Lifesong for Orphans, PO Box 40, Gridley, IL 61744.
We are honored to call you family, we pray you will come along side of us for the next years in growing our family through adoption.
STRIPE charges an online processing fee (2.2% +.30 USD per transaction). Your donations will be decreased by this amount. You may also send a check payable to “Lifesong for Orphans”. In the memo line please write “Mooney 8270”, to ensure it is credited to our account. Please mail to Lifesong for Orphans, PO Box 40, Gridley, IL 61744.
Lifesong has been blessed with partners who underwrite all U.S. administrative and fundraising costs (TMG Foundation and other partners). That means 100% of your donation will go directly to the adoption.
