Boersma Family Adoption

Mauralee & Brad
Mauralee & Brad Stillwater, Oklahoma

We are matched to adopt a 9-week old baby boy, named Andrew. We can’t wait to bring baby Andrew home, hopefully in the next few weeks!

This week marks 3 years since we officially began our adoption journey. Even deep amidst this adoption process, I can see how God has guided us through. His fingerprints are all over our lives and this journey. It feels as if we have come full circle in our adoption journey, as we started with a goal of foster-to-adopt; but then after learning and growing, God closed that door. Our experiences as foster parents taught us so much; it broke our hearts for the children and their parents. It made us more comfortable with the unknown. Even more so, it clarified that we wanted to have an adoption, where our child’s birthparents placed him with us; intentionally wanting us to give this child the best life possible.

Now, we are matched to adopt a baby boy from Florida. His name is Andrew! His birth parents have chosen us to raise him, and we will keep contact with them to build a relationship. He is 9 weeks old and currently in foster care; placed there upon leaving the hospital. This is an intervention adoption, since we are adopting through an agency, and pulling him out of foster care at the same time. It is complicated, expensive and there is more unknown than ever before. However, our God is so good and we fully trust Him to bring us the child He has designed for our family.

We need your help. This adoption process has forced us to ask for help in the past. However, the planners in us always had a back-up plan; an adoption loan that we could handle payments on once baby arrived. But we are in a new place, one we have never been before; we don’t have a back-up plan. The legal fees for this adoption are increased because of the complicated nature of this situation. In addition, we lost $7,000; in the failed adoption match earlier this year. We need your help. Even with our adoption loan, we are short $5,000; to cover the large sum placement fee; due when we pick up Andrew. Throughout the past couple years, we have been incredibly overwhelmed by the support of our friends, family and community. We have been applying for every grant we can find; but we must ask for help with the last bit we need to bring Andrew home. All gifts made through our Lifesong For Orphans account are tax-deductible. If you or anyone you know (including businesses) are looking to make a gift before the end of the year, please share this with them.  God has stretched Brad and I throughout this adoption journey; we are so thankful for the growth He has given us during this long season of waiting for His blessing. We believe that He is going to provide.

Thank you for taking the time to read and share this page. We are grateful for your love, support and encouragement. The first court date is next Tuesday, 10/30; from which we are hoping to gain a better idea of the timeline for when we can go get our baby (best case scenario -two weeks; worst case- mid-December).

We can’t wait to introduce you to Andrew!

We have a son!

December 12, 2018

God is so good! We have a son!!!

We had court on Monday morning and then met Andrew on Monday afternoon. We hated leaving him for another night; but he has been in the most wonderful foster home. This family has truly loved him as one of their own and we are so grateful!

Yesterday was the longest day ever as we waited for all the legal paperwork to be completed, corrected and completed again. After many prayers  and frustration, we received approval to pick up our son at 7:30pm. Although the wait was so frustrating, it is good to know that everything was processed thoroughly and correctly. He is ours!

Meet Andrew Zachary Boersma! We are so in love with him already!

We will be in Florida for a while longer, as we wait for the ICPC paperwork to be completed; granting us approval to go home.

Thank you for all the prayers,  encouragement and support. We are thanking God for this baby boy and for all of you!

We are overwhelmingly blessed. Our God has provided for us over and over again, and we believe He will continue every day. Our hearts’ desire is for God to be glorified through our family’s story of the redemptive beauty of adoption. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us!

Positive Progress

November 4, 2018

The first court session, last Tuesday, went very well. The eight attorneys, representatives and judge; from the Department of Children & Families, county court, and Family Creations (our adoption agency) discussed at length, what direction is in Andrew’s best interest. They have decided to honor the request of Andrew’s birth parents, to proceed with an adoption plan. We are thrilled to have 100% support from all parties involved in this case!

The next court date has been set for Monday, December 10th. That date seems too far away and each day is heart-wrenching without Andrew in our arms; but we are trusting God’s plan. We hope the next five weeks will go quickly.

Thank you for following along in our adoption journey. Please continue to share our story and request for support. We are grateful for the initial $5,000 raised over the past year, from individual donations and fundraisers. After the failed adoption in June, and increased expenses in this case; we need your help in fundraisng another $5,000 to bring our baby boy home. It is amazing to see God provide through our community; $850 in the past week!!! Only $4,150 left to go. Thank you for showing us so much love!

We are excited and hopeful to have Andrew home with us for his first Christmas!

Sad update

June 9, 2018

It is with a great deal of sadness that we must share that our adoption match has failed. It is a long story but ultimately we are not bringing home a baby boy this month. While we are disappointed, we still have hope that our family will be selected to adopt a baby soon.

We are so grateful for the encouragement and support of our friends and family, throughout this adoption journey.

Grateful!

January 27, 2018

We are so grateful for the family and friends that have supported our adoption journey! The impact of your gifts are doubled by or matching grant! Thank you!!

We are currently a waiting family with two agencies and an adoption consultant. We are thrilled that our profile book is getting shown to expectant mothers. We trust that God is going to lead us to the right match.

We are hoping to receive the full  $3500 matching grant, but in order to do that we must raise another $2260. We are planning a fundraiser now that will hopefully get us closer to that number, but we still need your help. Thank you for sharing our story and supporting us!
