Boaz Adoption Story

Chris Boaz
Chris Boaz Caldwell, Idaho

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our journey to starting our family through adoption!

Our journey to start our family began soon after we got married 4.5 years ago. After 4 years of trying to get pregnant, two rounds of fertility testing, the doctor gave us a prognosis and recommendation for treatment. But leaving the doctor’s office, we began to grieve almost immediately.

Not knowing if it was the realization that starting our family would be an uphill battle or the initial feeling that the doors were closing to having biological children of our own, we leaned into prayer. We decided that we would take time to pray and listen for God to give us guidance on what our next steps were.

After a few weeks, Chris and I felt that God was telling us to wait. We weren’t sure if it was wait and proceed with the treatment down the road or wait for a miracle, but we knew we had to be obedient to what God was calling us to.

About a month had passed and I asked Chris, “Do you think God is calling us to something different…Do you think He is calling us to adopt?” After all, adoption was not foreign to us. Adoption is part of Chris’s family story, and we have several friends who have adopted. We had always talked about the desire to adopt one day. Chris thought about it and said, “I think we need to wait like God has told us to. After the first of the year, we can start praying diligently about that.”

It was now the middle of December 2021, and I was sitting in our final staff meeting of the year (I am on staff at our Church). One of our lead Pastors started to go over the calendar for the new year and they announced that January 26th would be an informational Foster + Adoption Night; The Church’s first event for fostering and adoption to hear about the process and provide resources for those who feel led to do so.

We attended the event and had the opportunity to hear testimonials from those who have fostered and who have adopted internationally. In the next 4 months, Chris and I discussed every option…Fostering, Foster to Adopt, but we didn’t consider infant adoption an option due to the expenses involved. Fostering was a need we so badly wanted to fill, but I couldn’t bear the thought of having to let a child go.

After lots of counsel from family and friends, lots of prayer, and me getting in my head…We decided to attend an Infant Adoption Training Seminar in April (2022) to learn more. We ended the Zoom call and I asked Chris how he was feeling. “Terrified but excited.” The feelings were mutual, and without any vocalization of a decision, one was made. We didn’t know how we would make it happen, but we knew God could regardless.

Since that evening, God has continued to show up and provide in the most incredible ways. It has strengthened our faith and given us confirmation in every step that this is the right path for our family.

We are now in the infant adoption program, which means we will be adopting at birth or up to 6 months old. We are adopting within the state of Idaho. We are currently home study approved and are actively applying for grants to help us lessen the financial burden before we officially enter the waiting pool. Lifesong for Orphans has graciously awarded us a $4,000 matching grant. For every dollar donated to our adoption through LifeSong, they will match up to that amount.

Any donations received will help to cover the transition fee to enter the waiting pool, matching fees, placement fees, legal fees for finalization and the medical expenses for the birth mother.

We are asking if you would prayerfully consider partnering with us by donating, sharing our story, or praying with us. We are praying for the birth mother who we hope will become part of our family, our future child, and over all the details that need to come together to complete this process.

We have been so blessed by the outpouring of love, encouragement, and support through this journey. Thank you!

The Boaz’s Adoption Update – 5/18/23

May 18, 2023

Hi Family & Friends,

It’s been a while since we’ve shared an update on our adoption journey, so wanted to make sure we did that before too much time passes again.

What a journey this has been already! We will tell you that there really is no training, words of wisdom, or anything else that could prepare you for this. There are ups, there are downs, and sometimes it can change between the two within a matter of hours. The thing that has kept us anchored is our trust in the Lord throughout the process.

In March, we said our first yes to a synopsis. It was a whirlwind of emotion. We were notified on a Sunday, and birth mom was being induced on Wednesday. We submitted yes and tried to get just the necessities we would need situated if we’d be chosen. We went days with not hearing anything and kept thinking… “Our life may be totally changed in 72 hours, 48, 24…”

It was Wednesday morning at 10am that we found out that we were not selected. It was hard but Chris and I could not be more grateful for the support, love, and encouragement that our friends and families have provided to keep our eyes focused on God.

On May 5th, we received another synopsis and said yes. And yesterday, we were notified that we were not selected.

As I (Katie) was reading the text from Chris that our agency had just emailed us that news, I simultaneously received a text that a new synopsis was ready for our review! One door closed and another opened in the same minute. We like to think that was the Lord’s kindness.

We have said yes to our third synopsis, and now we wait. Wait & Pray. We have learned a lot about ourselves on this journey and feel the fire of refinement. We also realize that it may be possible that we will go through this process many times, but we continue to hang on to hope…Trusting that the Lord has specifically put us on this journey and that we will one day soon get to meet our child.

Thank you for all your love and support – We love you all!

Chris & Katie

Big News! – Boaz Adoption Story

December 17, 2022

Hi All,

We have some HUGE news to share with you!

We had shared with you all in our original thank you letters about the Forever Home grant that we had just so happened to come across. We had our first interview with their Director the same night that we went live with our LifeSong fundraising (12/5). Since then, we had been waiting to hear our next steps with them, which was to meet with their Board of Directors for a final interview.

Chris sent them an email this last Wednesday (12/14) to check in and the response was that they had been swamped, but good news was coming for the Boaz family, and we should keep an eye out for a zoom call later that night or early the next morning.

Chris was on his way to a volleyball event later that same evening and got a call from the Director of Forever Home, with the Board on speaker phone. They told Chris that they were going to bypass the second interview because they had heard all they needed to hear of our story and were awarding us the grant in the amount of $10,000…Chris said all he could say was “Holy buckets” and then he doesn’t remember the rest of the conversation.

I was working at church this evening and when Chris called me, I was in complete shock. How was this possible?! Again, experiencing the overwhelming feeling that we didn’t deserve any of this. However, as God normally does, He was doing far more than we could have ever expected or imagined.

Between what we have saved, your generous donations, and this grant, we are now fully funded!! Only God is capable of doing something like this. This week has been an absolutely whirlind and there have been so many tears shed. We are grateful beyond words. God overcame our fear and logic in this journey and it is an absolute testimony to His glory!

Next week, we meet with our adoption agency for a transition meeting to enter the waiting pool. We have to finish our profile book (we thought we had more time!), which will be given to birth mothers as part of the selection process…But we expect to be entering the waiting pool by the New Year!

Thank you for being a part of this journey with us, for allowing God to use you to bless others, and for your support…We are in awe.

We love you all!

Katie & Chris Boaz
