What do you do when you receive a call letting you know that there is not only one, but TWO babies, with a laundry list of potential health and developmental issues, who need to be adopted?
This was the question we faced when we received the call on Labor Day. After a lengthy prayer and discussion with friends and family, we felt God smiling on our decision to say yes!
Many of you know that we have had a desire to adopt for about eleven years after the diagnosis that we would not be able to build our family naturally. During those eleven years we have endured two failed adoptions: Ethiopia and an embryo adoption. It can be very discouraging when you begin questioning why it isn’t working out to start your family when the desire is so strong.
We admit, there were many times we questioned whether God even wanted us to have kids or not. Many times we felt like giving up, but through the encouragement of others and trusting in God’s plan, we pressed on.
God blessed us with a double portion! We were…are overwhelmed with joy and peace as we look into the eyes of the newest members of our family: Micah and Asher. We are happy to report that the doctors are amazed at how well they are doing despite their rough start.
Originally, we did not intend to ask friends and family for financial assistance for our adoption. We had saved enough to be able to pay for an adoption of one kiddo debt-free. Then there were two, and a potentially lengthy legal battle ahead! This unexpected blessing and challenge has brought us extra costs and a need to re-evaluate our financial plan. The first thing we did was reach out to various organizations to apply for grants.
Lifesong, partnering with Families for the Fatherless, has generously offered us a $3,000.00 matching grant. We are asking our friends and family to partner with us in donating to Lifesong, on our behalf, so that we can take full advantage of this grant. If we raise $3,000.00 or more, Lifesong will be able to release the additional $3,000.00 to help fund our adoption. Costs of one adoption can reach up to $35,000.00. Unfortunately, with two kids it is not a two for one deal, HAHA. Any money we raise above our $3,000.00 goal to release the grant will help fund our adoption as well. Our total goal is to raise $18,000.00.
If you would like to donate to our adoption cause you can send checks to Lifesong for Orphans, PO Box 40, Gridley, IL 61744.
