Dear family and friends,
Adoption is something we have considered and prayed about for many years. We’re excited to share that in God’s timing we are in the process of adopting from China! We have been blessed with 4 biological children, but I (Jen) have always longed to add one more child to our family. As we looked into the possibility of adoption, we found out there are many orphans in China waiting for families. In particular, there is a need for families to adopt boys with minor special needs. Our hearts were touched as we learned more about the challenges children face in orphanages, and Bryan and I felt confirmation that God was calling us to pursue adoption. It seems that God’s plan is for the longing in my heart to connect with a child in need of a family. We haven’t yet been matched with the child God will be adding to our family, but we’re moving towards adopting a boy with minor special needs who will likely be between 9-24 months old when he comes home. We plan to name him Caden.
As our kids have grown, we have seen the love they have for little ones as they play with their toddler cousins; they also love caring for and playing with babies and young children at church. They are very much looking forward to having their little brother come home, and we see this as another confirmation of our decision to adopt.
We’ve spent the last several months filling out paperwork (LOTS of paperwork!), completing our home study, and participating in the required adoption training. We will soon be sending our dossier to China, after which we will be waiting to be matched with a child and eventually travel to China to bring him home.
We know God’s heart is full of compassion for orphans, and we’re thankful for the opportunity to be a part of providing a home for an orphan in need as we also experience the joy of adding a little one to our family. God has already paid a great price—the death of His Son—to adopt us into His family; what a wonderful opportunity we have to experience the joy of becoming adoptive parents!
We so appreciate your friendship and support! While we don’t want you to feel any pressure, and it’s humbling to ask, we do want to invite you to be a part of our adoption through prayer and/or financial support. Here is more information on both of those opportunities:
- Prayer: Please pray for God to protect and provide for Caden until we can bring him home, and for God to provide the funds needed to complete our adoption. Please pray also for a good transition when Caden joins and bonds with our family, and that he would one day come to know Jesus as His Savior.
- Financial Support: The estimated cost for our adoption is $35,000-$42,000. We also anticipate medical expenses after Caden comes home. By God’s grace, we’ve been able to cover the expenses we’ve had thus far, but we are trusting God to provide the remaining funds to make this adoption possible. Would you consider making a tax-deductible donation towards our adoption expenses? Our goal date is April 16, 2017, but donations will be accepted up until our adoption is complete.
