Answering God’s Call – The Yoder Adoption Journey
We have been best friends for 18 years and shared in 13 wonderful years of marriage during which God has blessed us with 3 biological children – Lincoln, Reese, and Evalyn. We have experienced so much together and God has provided for us in countless ways. From owning our first home, parenting our children, engaging with our church, and finding a community we can serve and pour into, God’s fingerprints are all over our lives!
Last year, during our evening devotionals, I (Mark) started to feel that God had a specific plan for our family and finances. The more I went through a particular devotional series, the more I felt that God was expecting us to steward our money for His kingdom. During the second to last night of a 30-day devotional series, I audibly heard God’s voice telling me, “I want you to adopt.” Solidifying this leading, God led me through scripture in James that spoke of true religion caring for widows and orphans and passages in Mark in which Jesus shows the disciples what it means to be great by caring for children. After reading these passages, I followed the leading of the Holy Spirit and spoke to Amanda about this calling in our lives. She has a heart for children and thus was truly excited to discuss the possibility.
We spoke about this leading and what it would mean for Lincoln, Reese, and Evalyn to have another sibling. By the end of this lengthy late night discussion, we felt God’s calling strongly and were ready to start researching what our next steps would be. One of the most amazing moments in our lives occurred the next morning when our oldest child, Lincoln, woke up and rushed out of his room to tell us what he had dreamed. “Mommy is either going to have a baby or we are going to adopt!” We had never discussed any of this with our children and to our knowledge they didn’t really know what adoption was. We knew this was a vision given by God to again solidify this calling in our lives. We began actively pursuing God’s wisdom through his Word, began researching the types of adoption, started reaching out to friends who had adopted, and shared our intentions with our children.
Many months later, we are waiting with purpose and patience for God’s perfect timing and the infant/child He will bring into our family. Throughout this journey we have been so thankful for the support provided by our family, friends, church leadership, and the guidance of our Tapestry Adoption agent Vicki. We have been constantly reminded of God’s faithfulness and the fact that He is our Good Father who has adopted us into His family! Our Adoption Profile can be viewd on Tapestry’s website at https://www.tapestry-adoption.com/amanda-mark-adopt.
We ask that you join us in prayer for the birth mother and her baby/child. We desire to answer the call God has placed on our lives and thus need prayer for wisdom and perseverance. Please pray that God’s will would be done on Earth as it is in Heaven!
With much humility, we also ask that you would prayerfully consider supporting us financially. We know God is faithful and is our Provider. We also know it is Biblical to make our needs known; so although we are earnestly stewarding the money God has blessed us with, we fully realize that we need the support of others. We have a matching grant of $3,000 from Traders Point Christian Church. The funds lovingly given will go directly toward the cost of the adoption process – agency and legal fees, birth mother expenses such as appointments, delivery/hospital fees, and counseling, care of the baby/child, and many other vital expenses.
God’s providence is at work in our lives and the opportunity to share our story with you is evidence of this! Thank you for joining us in prayer and thank you for considering partnering with us financially. May God bless you and your family with His grace and mercy!
